Whos Depth gauges work correctly all the time?

Im curious if anyone elses depth gauge go sporatic at times. I have spoke to my local dealer and they have said at higher speeds they do not work correctly. I have found mine will blink, freeze or sometimes say 3ft deep and its really 75ft deep water. Just curious if other have seen this issue. Its not that big of a deal as I know where we ride but it can be annoying.

Mine will usually show me depth when I first start the motor but once we move it goes to 1.5 feet. Sometimes at slow speeds it will work. The normal lake we ride on is between 20-30 feet deep and it seems to have problems there. But over the 4th we was in a deep lake 300-400 feet and it seem to work fine event running at higher speeds 15-20 mph. (was too choppy to run any faster then that). It is frustrating but what do you do?

As soon as you exceed like 20 mph it can't keep up with the signal it emits and fails to record data

Definite POS! Mine works for about 5 minutes then reads 949.9ft thereafter. I look into replacing mine and the local dealer quoted me $600+labor.

Mine works perfect all the time and has for 12 years now. It's just a basic aftermarket one though.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Never had a problem with either of mine. However I am never in water over 25' deep. Seems to read correctly in my lake even at speed.

Will be out in a deeper lake soon and will see if that makes a difference.

I have never been on a boat where the depth sounder worked when going faster then wakeboarding speeds.

The one on my 05 Tige never gave me any grief at all. My MC had a loose ground and stopped working for a long time until I figured it out. My malibu works very consistently, except at the higher speeds.

Mine works most of the time, but as previously mentioned, above 20mph, it quickly goes crazy.

I haven't had a problem with mine. Works up to around 20-22 mph.

Same here. Never a problem on our 2009 RZ2.

I will say in deep healthy lakes, I get an occasional weird reading (e.g., 20 feet when I know it is 100+ ft). I suspect that is a big school of fish.

I am having this same issue on my 2009 RZ2. Works for a few minutes then goes to 949.9ft...

Anyone know exactly what the problem is? I mean what parts are in the system, there can't be that many I wouldn't think. These systems should be relatively simple.

There are a few things that affect the depth finder. First is the thru hull fitting, it must be tight and the glue needs a good seal on the inside of the hull. Mine has worked about 80% of the time below 30mph, it's pretty reliable at wakeboard and better at surf speeds. If I go faster chances are it'll go to 999'. The other issue is the type of bottom surface your bouncing off of. If it's a rocky bottom it works alot better than muddy or sandy bottoms. The depth finder can sometimes pick up a muted or oddly bounced signal from muddy or weedy bottoms and it makes the depth sounder go a little crazy. Add that with a poorly mounted tri-ducer and you've got an unreliable depth finder.

If I were to trouble shoot I'd first look at the wiring then look at the triducer, make sure it's not damaged or bumped or broken off the glue that seals it to the hull. If it looks off, take it off, grind and prep the area and try to re-attach the triducer to the hull.

                            NOBODY's

We use our Garmin which has a thru hull transducer.

Ok I checked all the wiring in the bilge and underneath the boat and all was fine. I unplugged and replugged the connector to the triducer and no luck. It now stays at 949.8 ft constant.

                              Any other suggestions?
