You can always get a longer pocket with more speed but what's impressive about the VX on Robert's comp weighted Z3 is that you get a long pocket without the speed! As Squid has used before, the statement "you don't know what you don't know" comes to mind. Until you ride behind that Z3, you really don't know. At 11.0 in that boat, the push is so forceful that it feels like you are going much, much faster than you are. I am glad that I did a clinic with Chris Kinsey at the Endless Wave Tour at Horsetooth because I was NOT ready for that wave's power and I have ridden behind Z3's before. If I had not done the clinic, I would have bombed at the competition because it took me a few "runs" to get used to the wave.

The RZ2 wave is still awesome and I love every second that I ride behind mine but regarding that Z3 wave, don't knock it until you've tried it, as Squid would say "You don't know what you don't know".

Never knocked the wake nine wake.. I just don't think it would out do my RZ2 without my design let alone with it. MY wave has so much push most people who have ridden it end up getting throw off the board from the forward speed lol.. But Like you said dunno till I try there wave..

You should try and head to Texas or Idaho and do a clinic and a comp! You will have an absolute blast and you can talk to everyone in person and share R&D info and maybe come up with something even better than what you have going on now, sometimes it's good to be in person and see how things work rather than a picture or just reading about it. Who knows what the next big thing is going to be!

I think some tricks really lend themselves to that 11 mph range, over 11.4 and it can hinder that. Weight up front can help with the longer pocket, but can hinder push, so there are always trade offs. The one very positive thing that we noticed right away with the VX is that the wave doesn't get drastically shorter when you slow down or put the taps up. The wake will get steeper and a bit shorter if you go from say taps 2-6, but if you do the same thing without the VX on the Z3, the wake will shorten much more. The wake still gets steeper and has more power, it just doesn't shorten much at all. You can look at that video we just did, and you see RJ surf in the beginning, and then I get out there with my huge mass and the wake looks just about as long. I ride at taps 5 or 6 to get that extra push, and RJ rides at 2-3 to get a wake that he can do his tricks on better. I am also riding slower. He rides at 11.2 and I am riding at 10.8 but the wake still is very long and you can see me get way back there. Also, when RJ is riding, I am in the boat and then vice versa. There is a ~ 240 lb difference in our weights.

          Pics:

We filled up the sacks, nothing else, I went first. I came in, RJ went out. No change in weight except our bodies. I rode 10.8 taps 5-6, he rode 11.2 taps 2-3. Same camera same angle. RJ is farther back, but only because he can ride farther back, the wake is not much shorter if at all. With the RZ2, when we had a big guy, and we put taps all the way up, the wave just shortened WAY up, same with the Z3 without VX, but not as bad.
You refer to the RZ2 alot.. Did you ever put the time into the RZ2 you did the 24ve and Z3? IE repairing the POS swim deck they come with that destroys the wave with heavy weight? I saw you put alot of time into the 24ve and the Z3 but I cant find alot of R & D you did on the RZ2 other than custom bags

Very cool Wicked, is that 18ft back from back of transom, or from rope connection point?

Can't wait to see some pics of the plate and get some more info Wicked. I had a buddy weld on a new mounting tab for the ram on my plate and even though it is functional and quite sturdy, it is really ugly and the plate itself is no longer straight due to some warping from the welding. I'm ready to replace it with a new one.
