I got to surf and wakeboard behind a 13 G23 today....

Today I finally got the chance to go behind my buddies G23 that he picked up a few months back. He has the NSS (Nautique surf system) and the ZR409 engine. I love checking out other boats on the market and just taking a back seat. Its nice to not always be the driver. IMHO its the best looking boat out for 2013 and the interior fit and finish is top notch. With that all being said Im more about the wake and performance it puts out. I was first up to ride today and Im goofy foot. We loaded all the ballast on the boat (2850lbs) and then set up the NSS for the goofy side. For the first 10 seconds it had a very dirty wake but once to speed and the NSS engaged it cleaned up very nice. There were 10 people on the boat and not all stacked on the surf side. Everyone was even on each side of the boat. The wake was not as tall as my RZR loaded up, but much cleaner, more push, and a about 10 ft longer wave. I was able to recover and get into the flats pretty easy. The one kid on the boat pulled a few transitions from side to side without anyone moving from the other side of the boat. This was my first chance at surfing behind a G boat and it amazes me how well it does for not having people shift to the surf side. I havent had a chance to get behind a surfgate malibu yet but hopefully in the next few weeks to compare against the NSS. Also I was shocked at how good the 409 did in this boat. I dont know which prop this boat had on it from the factory. Im sure if you had 16 people on board with full ballast that might be a different story. But with 10 people it did just fine.

Yup, the G23 is a very nice boat! Surfed one a week ago and it was a blast.

I sold our old Tige' and was all geared up to purchase an RZR or Z1 but demoed a 210 with NSS and now I'm a Nautique owner. Our community has a lot of different boats to surf on, Centurions, Malibus, Tige's and Nautiques. All fun and all different waves.

I had a chance to surf a 2008 Nautique 230 this weekend. The owner of this boat installed extra bags on top of the stock hard tanks. There was very little list to the boat. With no weight up front I was impressed with the size/height of the wave but not the length of it. I had to stay 5 to 7 feet behind the boat or I would lose the push.
The 230 was also pulling me at only 9.4 mph. Which is 3 to 4 mph slower than our 08 RZ2 fully loaded. The owner wished his wave was longer. He grew up in Cali and surfed so he is looking for more of a longer wave to really ride.
I gave him a few pointers on what might help him lengthen the surf wave, he is going to play around with it and let me know what works.

I was impressed with the potential of this boat and would like to try it again once he gets the wave dialed in.

The g23 are bad-*** boats., no doubt. Top of the line, but the price reflects that also. If money was not a factor at all I would probably have one. The wood and the interior layout are the best. The thing weighs so much though...and I have seen them for $100-150k. You can pick up a new Z3 or RZ4 for around $75k...not sure that the G23 is worth $25k more than a competing Tige IMHO...

Not sure how they have it weighted but the G23's wave doesn't look that impressive at the 10k Lakes open:

hard to say, I have been behind 5 different G23s all ranging from 13s-14s with 409s, 450s, and 550 motor. All have surfed better then any 13 Tige with convex VX and stock ballast that I have been on, and you can switch sides in 4 seconds, not 14 minutes. With that being said my RZR(with a 750lb FH sac in surf corner) had a taller, harder wake then any of the g23s I have been on. Once I get my G23 I will plan to dial it in like we did on my RZR, I will take pictures and videos once we do it.

I would think that they would have this thing dialed in for a comp though. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

keep us updated, I would like to know what the setup is on that boat. Do you know if its a 13 or 14? and if so which motor was in it. Im assuming 550.
