Initial impressions of 2013 Tige Z1 vs my RZR not impressed so far with the surf wake

so today I was all excited to get on the dealers new 13 Z1. I was pumped to go behind a Z1 with the convex VX and the new interior. First off the interior/design is really nice and a nice improvement. The transom walk through on the Z1 is great and a nice option. The rear storage is a very cool idea and much nicer then the RZR. Unless Im missing something the wake surf behind the Z1 with pro ballast and convex VX is nothing to write home about. My RZR looks much better and has much better push then the Z1 with pro ballast and convex VX. I used Ragboys Ballast setup and then went from 10.5-12mph to find the right speed and we found taps at 3-4 with 11.0mph ended up being the cleanest setup. This boat had the EX 343 which is the same as my RZR and was so underpowered compared to what I am used to. Im trying to find out what prop was on this boat but it was so underpowered compared to my RZR. I want to go behind a Z1 with the 409 to see how it compares. Overall I hate to say it but I wasn't overly impressed and was so set on the Z1. We are doing another demo on monday to give it another go. The Z1 is very tippy like the RZR when you are at cruising speed on the water. Another thing I noticed about the Z1 with the 343 is it had a horrible drivetrain clunk from forward to reverse. My RZR is butter smooth, this thing was very rough. I also noticed that the throttle linkage and the neutral holder was very stiff and not as easy to position as my RZR. This may get better with break in, or it may not.

The rumor is a new RZ2 is coming out, anyone know anything more about that? If the RZ2 surfs like my RZR then I may be more inclined to go that direction.

The RZ2/22Ve hull surfs better then any other Tige hull to date, so it should surf great, unless they get to monkeying to much. Hopefully the RZ changes are top deck/cosmetic type changes.

I would agree with the above however, I think the hull will be the change.

I'm actually curious how big of a surf wave you need? You must be a professional if it has to be taller, because the z1 I have w/out a convex vx and no ballast filled was fine. I had 8 people in my boat and let it list to the port side . There are also 5 batteries on that side but the wave was at least 1 foot taller than the back of the boat! While I was riding it had plenty of push. I could only imagine the height if I filled up port side ballast

I think you should try the Z1 without the VX, I think thats the problem. I have a new Z1 without the VX. I always thought that if you add another two feet to the hull then it goes without saying that you need a bigger load to build the wake. I have no problems with my wake and I'm 260lbs and surf goofy. I find it a little rampy when we dont have enough weight up front so I'm still tweaking. The one thing that does irritate me is the "tippy" feeling that you get when cruising. for that I set the taps to 3/4 and that seems to help a lot, that and the fact that the missus and both kids weight the same as me so we get some balance.
100% agree with the throttle interface too.

Im not a pro by any means....but I thought it would at least be as big as my 20ft RZR. With that being said, my RZR does not have Con VX, and this boat did. Im going back out on it tomorrow to see how it does. Im all for second chances, and want it to be amazing because I would like to buy this boat.

Im glad you noticed the same things as me....thanks for this feedback. Today I was on a G23 and I purposely had my buddy put 7 people on port side and 3 on starboard and I wanted to see how it cruised....no 'tippiness'. I think the Tippiness comes from the shape of the Tige Hulls. If you have any videos I would love to see how your wake looks....im taking my go pro tomorrow to record the wake on the boat we are taking out.

I'll try to round up some pics of the surf wake at texoma last week. I know my buddy had a go pro taking pics. I'm used to a 20 v and haven't noticed any tipping. But also to mention about the clanking noise my boat does not do that

G23 also weighs 1000-2000 pounds more than any Tige and drives like a barge

X2, The Tige hulls taper quite a bit from the top deck rails to the waters running surface, so they feel like a bigger boat for the passengers but they drive like a more narrow boat, and the G23 is just a monster of a boat for the running surface compared to the RZR. It would be a more fair comparison for a Z3 or RZ4 to a G23 in the tippiness category, but I bet the Tige boats would still feel more tippy.
