The latest... Starter is making a whirring sound

    Hello all (again),

After enjoying the boat for a few days, now the starter is making a whirring noise and wont turn over. Any ideas on a fix? How tough is it to pull out the starter and get it up to the dealership? Anyone have a quick link to the PCM 343 technical drawing?

    Thanks (as always).

    John

Easy to remove, maybe an hour in and out. I am sure that someone up your way has one in stock. If not, worst case scenario, I have a couple of them.

Is that wirring noise usually the starter, or could it be something else? Any idea on price?

And do you have a technical drawing that I could take a look at? Want to make sure I am getting at the right stuff (and more importantly putting it back in the right place).

Yes, I think that the solenoid crapped out on you. It's not engaging to the flywheel. Sound like its stuck. In a pinch, sometimes whacking it with a hammer will un-stick it but, it won't permanently fix it.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Sounds like the starter motor is winding up but the bendix is not engaging. This can be bench tested.

Is there any evidence that boat has been underwater?

                No evidence of being sunk.

Any mechanics in Minneapolis that want to come to my dock in medicine lake to replace the starter? K
