Hit rocks, prop and rudder damage

Went to check out a different river off the chesapeke this weekend, didnt take the time to look over the charts and paid the price. We ended up hitting a sunken island out near the center of the river, only the prop hit but it hit hard enough that it pulled the shaft out of the v drive and slid into the rudder and ripped that out of the fiberglass.

Thankfully everyone was ok, we settled on the rock so it didnt sink and coast guard was able to plug the hole enough to tow us back to the boat ramp... trying to determine all the damage now.

I'm not familiar with how the prop shaft attaches to the v-drive, is it possible that I damaged any gears in the drive? I dropped it off at my marina to have them take a look at it this morning but I'm just curious.

Had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago, but the drive shaft did not get pulled out. I ended up replacing the strut, rudder, and prop along with fiberglass and gel cote. No damage to the V-drive.

      glad everyone is ok

I did the same thing last year. I think my total was almost 9k. glass, gelcoat, motor pull, rudder, strut, prop and shaft all replaced.

      Thank you insurance.

How fast was the boat going at the time of impact?

Hate to say it, but the rudder is bent. Look a the clearance differences.

Thanks for the info everyone, we were going about 15 when it happened but I had just slowed down from about 30 because I saw crab pot bouys ahead.

Chp that was an image from kramers damage but I dont doubt mine is bent as well
