I have heard from two people now that had newer non Convex VX and now they have convex VX boats and they are not happy with the wake it produces. They are both telling me they are having to weight the boat down wich much more ballast then they did with the non VX boat....this sounds like a pain.

I have a 2013 Z3 with the Convex VX. While I've never run it without, my friend has a 2012 withOUT the Convex VX which I've ridden plenty as well. The biggest difference I see with the Convex VX is the length, smoothness, and control of the wash. The stock platform has tons of size and push as well, but compared side by side, the VX wake has push further back. It does seem that the VX likes a little more weight, but it seems that it's about the weight of an adult (150-250lbs). I know Ragboy has more specifically stated about 300 lbs more is needed/wanted, but I notice the difference with another 150-250lbs, for what its worth. It's a big decision due to the cost of the VX, so it's very much a personal decision. I compared it to having a (insert favorite performance car) BMW M5 and choosing the stock Michelin's or upgrading to track tires because you are looking for that extra edge, or simply because you want the potential of the best possible experience. I'm glad I decided to get it.Last edited by mnpracing; 06-27-2013, 02:44 PM.2013 Z3 - Electric blue and black

I've been trying to run down this question the past few weeks as well. I am hearing two different things.... First, I am hearing that it works great, but it needs more weight since, in effect, it makes the boat longer by a couple feet. Second, I have had a couple people tell me that only the bigger boats need more weight. The RZR and R20 do not. I've got a 2012 RZR and am VERY interested in hearing from folks who have been behind the 20 footers both with and without the VX. Thanks for starting this thread.

We just took delivery on our Z1 with Convex VX/Pro Ballast last night. We have only done a little surfing in the past, not having our own inboard and that being said, I was able to ride without the rope (not long because I suck at this point). We were fortunate enough to have one of the few MN based pros with us and he was able to ride it well and get some decent air. I don't have anything to compare against, but do believe it is better to have than to want if you can afford it. That being said, it was pointed out that adding the enzo sack would make a big difference to open up the wave and provide push, especially for newbies like us. For what its worth."I think I am pretty smart for an idiot"

Just threw up a thread in wakesurfing about my CVX getting installed today at dealer. We had some clients we were teaching to surf on Sunday in our RZR. They were really cool cats, all of them weight lifters. Between all of them we added close to 700lbs of people. Our RZR was hard to get a good wave going. Most of the time it is my wife daughter and I and maybe 2 additional people and the RZR wave is dialed. We are optimistic that with the CVX added the prop wash and shorter pocket we experienced on Sunday will be eliminated. We too have read and spoke to others with the 20' class of Tige that more weight is needed but usually an extra person or so is enough with the Surf Ballast option installed.
To me and my understanding of the dynamics it would appear that the 20' class will experience the greatest benefit from the CVX. We are basically getting a running length addition without having a bigger boat that won't fit in many garages, waterways and will tow very easy. Plus if you look at the pix in the other thread in wakesurfing you see you get the new platform that is filled in and smooth on the bottom as part of the retrofit package. So if you are going to go out without the CVX installed on it you do have the nice clean underside of the new style platform!!!
We will be out testing on Saturday. We will make sure to report back in on experience. We will have photos, videos and personal experiences to share.2013 RZR w/ConvexVX

We have a 2013 Z1 with VX. These are with the pro ballast system. Full both front, full surf side with 200# of lead underneath the bags and 200# of lead off side and the hard tanks full. The wave is clean and fairly long. We are waiting on the list for the group buy from Ragboy. That should make the wake even better. We are glad we got the vx.
