Lake LBJ?

Looking for suggestions for a place to stay a few days on lbj. Cabin or small house.

Check out VRBO, or Homeaway.com. In Kingsland there is the Rio Vista Resort, Longhorn Resort, and the Kinglsand Inn. We stayed there for five days last week, and the water on the main part of the lake got pretty rough during the day. I hear the water on the Colorado river arm stays fairly smooth but we didn't get to make it over there to check it out. If your in to the party crowd be sure to check out sandy or sunrize beach on the weekend.

I forgot there are Log Cabins for rent and a lodge off route 2342 on the Colorado arm of LBJ. Take 1431 to Kingsland then a right on 2342 and there about a mile to a mile and a half on your left.

You don't want to go to LBJ.....there's no water and what's there is always rough.

All kidding aside, you could check with some of the realtors in Horseshoe Bay, they usually have a line on rental properties. Stay away from the Colorado arm on the weekend, it's gets so crowded that it's not even worth driving up there to try and ride. Usually about the only spot to ride on the weekend during the day is between Sunrise Beach and Kingsland. It's the only stretch of the lake without bulkheads, so you still have to do with boat rollers, but it usually stays decent.

We rented a house in Sunrise Beach and a house in Horseshoe Bay on the water through a realtor before my family finally bought our place 10 years ago. They were even able to give us temporary memberships to Horseshoe Bay so we could use the ammenities before we became members. We're out there almost every weekend during the summer, at the moment just on my dad's Sea Ray 270 Sundeck, but hopefully that's changing in the next month.

Tons of places to stay. You can stay at the Marriot too. It's somewhat expensive, but has perks. You get access to the Yacht Club, eating, White Water (Putting Course) swimming pools ect... As far as the water it really depends on what weekend you go..ofcourse! Holiday weekends are super busy. The water is usually really rough! Most from all of the traffic. Even if you go to kingsland and go back up into the river it is smooth, but very busy. We have a place at Horseshoe Bay. I'm with Tommy call Horseshoe Bay and they should be able to find you something. Also, Bay Marine has some cabins that they rent. There is a small waterpark there too.

My wife and I are in education and off during the summer. We will be going during the week, so hopefully it wont be too crowded.

If that's the case you should be good to go. Most of the coves are shallow, just beaware. There is a granite shelf north west of the light house that is only about 3-4' deep. It is marked! Everything is marked so you shouldn't have any problems. You can tour through the houses at Apple Head. Small channels that you can drive through.

Cabins are at LBJ yacht club and all 4 were rented for the summer by the CEO of Whole Foods if I remember right.

Also stay off the Llano river split in Kingsland. It gets shallow pretty quick with lots of granite under the surface.

That "sandbar" northwest of the lighthouse gets ankle deep in some spots. Sandy Creek is a better sandbar because its actually sand and not decomposed granite.

I wish....I'm on call here in Houston, but will be there next Wed to Sun for the 4th.....Crazy busy time to be on the water, but with friends and 3 boys from 14 months to 5, tubing will probably be more prevalent for our crew anyway. We keep our boat at the LBJ Yacht Club and will probably be doing homemade ice cream and watching fire works for the 4th.....gives a great vantage point for the Horseshoe Bay show

Yes it does! It is a great show! We are located in the same cove as the slips at the Yacht Club. We usually just ease out of the cove and anchor out close to the light house. It makes for very easy navigating in the dark.

it's a shame when those in your cove feel like their fireworks show is better than the $100,000 show that Horseshoe Bay puts on.....seems to annoy us every year. Our place is up the canal off Jonathon Cove, with all the other lakes low and more trailer boats coming in, our cove is now covered in hydrilla, so we're having to have it dredged since the LCRA wouldn't approve the chemical we wanted to use.

Damn. I sure noticed way more hydrila ghan in years past. I haven't heard the exact reason why until now. The fireworks show is great. If you tell some one about they have always got a bigger better show on another lake. Lol.

That's the only thing we can figure.....we bought our place in 2003 and when they dropped the lake last time (3 years ago?) they had D5 cats in to scrape our cove down to the granite base. We never had this kind of issue before the drought and Travis selling off all their water. I just hope we don't end up with Zebra Mussels like the North Texas lakes are starting to have to deal with.
