Water in the engine compartment...so much that the cruise wont hold speed!

I had boat out yesterday, for the first time this year

Ran for a few hours, anchored, tubed. I filled port rear locker for surfing at the end of the day, and ran for a bit. Wave was ok.

15 min in, the boat wont hold speed and the wave disappeared and was washed out.

Stopped, opened engine hatch...10 inches of water easy! No bilge on!!

Belts were working under water....i imagine the slipping of wet belts was causing the inability to hold speed.

Any thoughts on what this is and where to look? That seems to be an unusual amt of water. I did notice this last year, right at the end of the year, and told them about it, and they said there was a recall for bilge....

I dropped at the dealer this am, but Im not confident they will figure it out! Heading up north for a week on Sunday...

I might blame this on the WI winters. I was trying to fill the Starboard sac for surfing last weekend. It was taking forever. Opened the compartment and sac was half full at most. When I removed the small trap door that allows access to TAPS I noticed that the check valve was cracked completely in half. As I was pumping water in the sac it was slowly leaking through the check valve and into the bilge area. Probably had 3 to 4 inches in the bilge. My bilge pump did not turn on immediately so I had to turn it on manually.
Now my system was self-installed. I also have to check for tube punchers every year as kinks can cause leaks.

I thought the water was completely out of the system. I was wrong, it froze and cracked a 1" plastic check valve in half!

This spring I had mine in for a similar issue. The end result was a faulty PSS shaft seal. I was told a bad batch of those went out in 2012.
They suspected the issue when they noticed a black line in the bilge parallel to the shaft seal. It was confirmed with a test on the water.
Where you able to actually turn your pump on from the touch panel? I had issues with blowing fuses it was solved by adding a diode on bilge so I would make sure u get that.

I can turn it on manually, but it doesnt come on automatically.

I had mine winterized and stored at the dealership, and I did notice the water in there at the end of the year as well. They were supposed to fix bilge not coming on, but Im glad to see there are other areas to check.

whats the PSS....if I may be dumb!

Interesting - I have been getting some water in the bilge and can not figure out where it is coming from either. It is not huge amount but a couple of inches. Thought it may be a bad fitting or cracked line in the hard tanks. Ironically my dam blower keeps popping fuses even after upgrading both of them to a larger size. PSS = prop shaft seal. Let me know what you find out - seems like water and bilge/blower fuses are a 2012 common issue.

Packless Sealing System. It prevents water from coming in where the prop shaft goes through the hull.

If the auto bilge is not working, you probably have a blown fuse. The auto and manual bilge are on different circuits.

I had the bad blower issue... That was fixed. The auto bilge either doesn't work or keeps blowing
Fuses. I will touch base with the shop in am.

With that much water, it is usually a hose that is off or the plug is not in.

I had an intake water hose that had cracked and had about the same amount of water in my boat after it sitting overnight.

is your bilge wired direct to battery? if so then it should kick on anytime the float in it rises. if it is only wired to dash/key it will only work when key is on and switch is activated. i would say check ballast fittings and or the packing on the shaft.

spoke to dealership...5 bad ballast pumps out of 8. Tige changed manufacturers in 13, so im getting 8 new pumps. they were leaking when boat was in the water, enough so, that they can see a steady stream without turning them on. also bilge did not operate on auto...so i get a new one of those as well. Boat was winterized by dealer...but this was happening last fall as well.

Tige is sending out 8 new pumps and the dealer is putting them in on thursday...he says it is a 15 hour job to replace them all.

That is great to hear. Are the new pumps going to have more flow?

                            Gotta love the warranty!
