Strong Fuel Smell after fill up!

Second time this has happened, after filling tank to full, strong smell of gas for about 2 hours? Mostly seems to be coming out of or around drivers side compartment/heater? Seems to go away after boat has been run awhile. No problems next day, until boat is full again? Fill till pump shuts off, no fuel out of breather, the last two fill ups have on the trailer, and both drives to launch have had some downhills? Haven't filled it up yet on water to know if it will happen? Smell is in front of boat not in engine compartment. 2000 23V is model.

i have a 05 24v and we get that smell all the time. we will fill it up on friday night, it will sit in front of the house and sat morning we take the cover off and throw all our stuff in it and it smells way strong with gas. i cant find any leaks anywhere, but in the rear storage compartments and the engine compartment, it is a very strong smell. when we get to the lake we open the compartments, and run the blower for a while before we put it in the water. once we get going, the smell is gone.

I had the strong gas smell the first time I took out the boat from the rear engine compartments. Took it back to the dealer who couldn't find a problem. Has not happened since. I do not fill the boat all the way since I have had problems with expansion and gas running down the sides.
      Let it be!!!

Just for comparison, I have a 2003 22v. I fill it up until it kicks off automatically and I never get the smells you describe. I don't detect any smells at all.

          Echo,

My 2002 21V had a overflow valve located near the windshield on the port side. When I filled it up and then slowed down on the hill, gas would come spewing out of it. I'll see if I can find a pic later, but could that be your source of smell?

I had a bad gas smell also. I had them look at it at the dealer and it was simply the hose where it goes into the tank, they tightened it up and I haven't had a problem with it since. That was the second time I took it in for that, the first time they changed some valve doohickey that did not solve the problem.
          Be excellent to one another.

            Echo,

Was it really hot on the days it happened?

Boats are notorious for Burping fuel when its hot and the tanks are full.

Even a little bit of gas spilled can make a pretty strong smell.

Be sure to use your blower before you start up!

No it was not hot that day. I have not yet had any fuel burp out of the breather/vent while filling the boat or these last two times when boat was full and then trailered down hill. Also, that fuel would be outside the boat, mine smells like its coming out of the heater or the storage space in front of the driver? Is there a check valve on the breather/overflow? I am pulling the boat out tonight, I think I will pull floor up that covers gas tank and see if I can find anything?
