Waterproofing -- NeverWet spray wow!!

Saw this article on NeverWet sold at Home Depot, a new two-step spray on hydrophobic coating. According to the FAQ, a lightly coated surface is still breathable. Cool video is below:

I am definitely going to pick some up to see how it works.

So, what are some ideas on what to use this for? Covers. Dock lines. First aid kit (ours bag seems to always get wet). Boat carpet.

What would it do on the bottom of a surf board? I have a board we never use ... might have to check that out!

Does it wash out over time? Will it wear off? Is it biodegradable? Can you put it on a mirror to stop it from fogging up in a bathroom? The possibilities could be endless...

Read the FAQ I linked to above. Evidently this stuff is tough. It will abrade off but it takes alot (and you can reapply). It does not dry clear so you cannot use it on windows. I am guessing it is slippery so I would not want to use it on fiberglass walking surfaces. But below water line? Hmmm. Might keep it clean.

I am really thinking of using this on the carpet, especially in the lockers and under benches. And no more wet and stinky dock lines!

iwndr how long it holds up to the sun, it looks like a great product for the boat covers and maybe anchor line.

I would love to put that on the seats of my boat. If it would work, I doubt I would have to clean more than once a summer.

I see this as a great tool to coat the carpet under the seats and in the ballast lockers so the water does not collect there and encourage the growth of mold, just let it run straight down into the bilge.

So I bought this product and tried it out on two small nylon bags (first aid stuff) and a heavy canvas cover for a Shore Spike (if there is water in the port bench locker it is always wet). The product works as advertised. But it definitely leaves a frosty translucent white color. And the treated surface is sort of rough and crunchy. I do not know if that feel softens up.

I plan on testing a small patch of carpet, especially under the fat sacs in the rear locker.

Home Depot employees were clueless as to this new product. I found it in the store near the other Rustoleum anti-rust sprays (i.e., not in water proofing area).
