Convex VX -- Goofy side wave

I am considering the Convex VX for my 2012 RZR. Before spending that much, I'd love to get some feedback from the group on how well it works. We have both regular and goofy riders in my family, so I am hoping it does a good job on both sides. I read some earlier posts that indicated the goofy side might not be as good. What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

From what i have read, im not sold on the idea. Can it make a better wave= most say yes! But thats at the cost of more ballast! Im not willing to give up all my storage in the boat.

I agree I dont think it is worth it. We get a nice wave on goofy side with surf ballast full half up front driver and 1 passenger taps at 4 11.3 mph

From my experience so far (about 10 hours in an r20 with VX), you will need more ballast than stock surf. We have got a decent goofy wave, but have not really dialed in that clean, perfect shaped wave either. I have not had the boat without the VX so not sure what it is like without it, but I begin to wonder if I will get a better wave if I decide not to spend the $$$ on extra ballast and just remove the VX. hmmmm ..

You are going to get a good wave regardless. just the VX is longer and takes more weight. The wave is also harder.

That is everything I have been lead to believe as well. You would have to expect it to desire more weight as you add almost 2 feet of effective hull length at surf speeds.

Not sure on the vx design.. But be assured I will update when I find something that really works... I am working on it and have tried alot of different setups and designs.

ya but not impressed with how it works.. Ive got some things ive made that make a KILLER SURF WAVE but it jacks up the wakeboard wake and thats no good... I will get it figured out with some more time and testing

That's good feedback. I had not considered that I'd need to add more weight to go along with the VX. I like the RZR's wave with stock surf ballast. It can always be bigger and better, of course. But for a 20 foot boat with no extra ballast beyond the surf package, it is pretty good on both sides. While I'd always like a longer and bigger wave, I'd prefer to not have to be adding more weight and losing a bunch of storage. If there's anyone who had a R20 or RZR without the VX and then added it, I'd love to hear what you guys think.

I have one that is at the dealer getting the vx installed this weekend so i will be able to give you a good idea on the differences between the two wakes. I have also upgraded the ballast to 1000lb sacs in the back which really made a big difference even without the vx. we usually run full front and surfside ballast and get a nice wave with lots of push. to make it longer sometimes we throw another 400lbs up front.

Do you have pics or video of this setup?

Can you tell me what sacs you got for the RZR? Are they I integrated with the factory system so you can fill and drain from the tige touch?

Hello, The sacs that i switched to i believe are for an rz2. They were a direct hook up from the factory sacs and i also added extra fill pumps and also a side to side pump. Everything except the side to side pump is wired to the tige touch and with the extra fill pumps it takes the same amount of time to ballast the bigger sacs, never even had to adjust the timers. I picked up everything from chpthrll and I would recommend talking to him if you are interested. If you go to the bigger sacs in the back you will also want to swap your drain and vent lines side to side to prevent unwanted draining after you start surfing. For the extra 400lbs. in the front we just throw a sac on the seat. I will get some pics of the wave later on in the week when i get home from work.
