    You will be very close to the max weight of your vehicle. Looking at the Audi website your max is 6,600 lbs. The dry weight of the Z3 according to Tige is 4,640, the trailer will be at least 1,200 lbs, plus the weight of the tower, batteries, gas and gear and your getting close to the max. I'm close to my max on my tow vehicle too, I tow with a V8 4Runner rated at 7,000lbs max towing. It tows my RZ2 very well for it's size, I pulled my boat from TX to WA through LA, up the grapevine pass and it pulled at 60mph up hill no problem. But my 4Runner has a solid rear axle, and it's a small truck frame, so it's a little different than the Q7, and the Z3 is a little bigger and heavier than my RZ2. You won't be the fastest tow vehicle on the road, but it should get the job done for weekend duty on short trips, but you might consider an escalade or QX56 if you plan to do alot of long distance towing. But if your in FL or pretty flat terrain I think you'll be fine.

      Q7 tow cap = 6600 lbs

      Z3 = 4640 dry
      trailer = 1500
      fuel = up to 300 +
      tower = 200 +
      batteries = 80
      other accessories = 200-300
      gear = 150

      creeping up to 7200 lbs

            The biggest issue will be the fact I have the 450hp engine and added every option and even added 2 more subs. Well I guess we shall see

              I towed a 12 RZR all last summer with a 2012 Jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon (3500lb towing capacity). It did fine and I towed almost 1000 miles with this setup. Boat weighed in around 5500lbs with trailer. With that being said I did upgrade to a grand cherokee with a hemi for this season (7200lb towing capacity) and it tows much better then the wrangler did. I wouldnt have upgraded from the Wrangler but hated the wind noise and handling from the wrangler. The wrangler had plenty of power to tow our boat at 70mph with a 280hp V6.

                Lots of vehicles have power to tow - its having enough power and to stop.

                  x2.... and handling! any vehicle not rated to tow the weight will have trouble steering, stopping, controlling a load in an emergency, etc... these boats are getting big and heavy and you can never go wrong with extra tow vehicle power, size, brakes, stability, etc. I towed my boat with a 1500 silverado loaded with tow package upgrade and all the tow options, rated to tow 10,000 lbs and it crapped out while towing my 6000-7000 pound boat. just saying its better to get a larger vehicle that can handle the weight and everything rather than be under capable and have major problems that are much more costly than a vehicle trade in and upgrade.

                    The Q7 definitely has the power and probably the brakes too, it's how well the springs/shocks/frame/unitbody? can handle the load. How far are you going to be towing with it and how often?

                      The test tow be Monday and we usually tow from Calgary to Penticton Bc , so about 7 hours. I have talked to the dealer and they say its rated to 6680lbs.

                      boat with trailer if about 6400 inc toys , we should be tight but ok . With the new brakes on the trailer I hear its great. We shall see

                          You should be fine....it would be good to find out your GVCW rating for your audi. Then when you have that go pull the boat to local weigh scale and see what your weight comes in at. I dont know how your audi will tow (handling/suspension wise) but our new grand cherokee with the max tow package and hemi is well planted on the highway. I feel pretty confident in it, it has a 7200lb tow rating. I have found when it comes to towing nothing tows like 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups....they have a very solid and confident feel. But with that being said the other options do an excellent job and will do the job quite adequately. Let us know how it works out and post a picture!

                            I'm curious to hear how this works out for you. I drive that route all the time as well heading to Shuswap. I'm not sure if other people realize but this is the main east/west artery in the country, and one of the highest elevations of a major road in Canada. You will be pulling through 4500 feet with long uphill grades.

                            I have an Avalanche rated to 7200lbs trailering, or 13,000lbs total. I'm intentionally looking at something smaller than a Z3 because of this.

                            I think you will probably make it alright, but your vehicle is really not meant for this and you will be white knuckled a lot of the time. Even if that 3.0 Litre has the power, the boat is going to toss your SUV around a bit. The number you might want to be most concerned about is not the tow rating, but the combined weight rating. This is the combined weight of the whole entourage. I wasn't able to find it on a quick google search, but that combined number is important. If you exceed that, you are legally liable for any accidents / damages. So even if it can manage the accelerating, turning, braking etc, if you end up in the ditch or worse, you won't have insurance.

                            Anyways, good luck to you. Please update us. This exact voyage lies in my future.

                              I have pulled my z3 with our 2010 escalade from Saskatchewan to kelowna multiple times with no issue and 6 adult passengers.

                              Some food for thought !
