Alpha z tower broke at base

    Hello,

Today my alpha z tower on my 09 z1 broke. Where the base pin inserts completely cracked then broke off. Tubers have not been pulled from the tower and a 140 lb kid was wakeboarding when it happened. Pictures to follow.

    Anyone heard of this?

    Ideas on cost to fix?

Wow. Man you can't catch a break. Wonder if that is a product of tubing by the prior owner.

Who knows what the previous owner did?!?!?

        Anyone ever seen this?

I assume they can fix it by replacing the one base (I hope)?

Did you break both sides because that apears to be the the starbard side in your hand and a picture of the port side , if both sides are broke inspect the upper front side of tower for impact scrapes or touch up paint , cause thats the only way that it would break at the latch, I know because I ran a tower into a hotel overhead beam and broke it in the same spot, no tubes or skier will break that tower.
Prior owner maybe hit the front and it created a slight fracture and your skier finished it off.

It's only the port side. I will check for touch up paint.

            Thanks for the heads up.

You think they can replace just the base for a reasonable cost?

I'm not sure how reasonable cost will be. But I hope for your sake it will be cheap. I'm not real sure If that can or can't be welded but u might look into that.

On a side note, I think this is the first Alpha Z tower failure that I have heard of. But given the boat's history, it is hard to call the tower suspect. Likely previous owner abuse.
                Be excellent to one another.

What is all this "boat history"? I must have missed a thread somewhere. Has this particular boat been abused?

There was water in the oil and it wasn't disclosed by the seller or the dealership in Colorado. Cost me $3k to get it back to full power. Had it in the water for seven days and now the tower issue.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I'm sure you've been over all of this, but it sure sounds like you might have some recourse against the seller or especially the dealership. Anyway, I hope it all works out. I'm watching this thread because I have the same tower and hope to learn from this situation.

Talk to tige directly. They most likely wont leave you hanging. They have great customer service. They likely will want to hear about it and see it. These towers are tough and that is not normal.

Man when it rains it pours your direction, sorry to hear that, was hoping your summer would pick back up after having the motor issues. Makes ya wonder what the previous owner did to do that kinda damage.

Yikes, that tower break looks hideous. Sympathies for the trouble with your boat. Get a lawyer and figure out what sort of recourse you might have.

$1400 to get it fixed. F*ck me.

Called Tige customer support. They had engineering look at it and they said it was probably hit by something previously. Nothing they could do about it now though.
