Alpha z tower broke at base

Thanks h2oskier, sorry it happened to you. That stripped pin looks crazy too, I wonder if all the tower threaded pins look like that or if your just unlucky enough to see all these problems on your tower.

my threaded pins are like that too, have been since day 1. I believe the end of the pin acts as a....well....a pin. I'll look further at it this week, but I believe it threads into the the upper tower only and the end of the bolt acts like a pin into the outer part of the base.

That was my thought upon seeing the photo: That they might have machined off the end threads so the end acts like a pin but the back end threads in to keep it in place. If both sections had threads, it could be really tricky to make certain the threads are distance AND rotationally aligned so that the bold would screw through both sets of threads.

true, I was wondering why they just didn't thread the whole thing, but what you said makes it clear.

If someone could check theirs and let me know that would be great, I'll put the newer style one's back in.

Mine are threaded the whole way. Does not look like a pin looks liek a bolt.

Then I don't know what the intent was. Maybe they expected the end to ACT like a pin, by using a larger-than-thread-size hole. Rattling of the tower would then explain how his pins got worn down. A call to Tige could clear this up.

I have had the "recall" threaded pins installed since they were available (2011?). There have always been "stripped" threads at the tip.

2 pins out of my 4 on the r20 vector tower look worn at the tips like the image as well. I believe they are intended to be that way as I remember this topic coming up on this board last year.

Yes they are that way by design.
