Although... brand new crated diesels aren't $25K and remans are even less. If a guy was so inclined, why couldn't you just drop a stock diesel where a gasoline engine used to be? Boats get new engines all the time. Might require some custom engine mounts, and the transmission interface could be interesting, but a stock diesel ECM is already sort of designed for the type of load that a boat presents (in Dom's words, "always driving uphill"). Sort out the cooling issues and it could work.

No, I'm not volunteering my wallet to fund such an experiment. {grin} But I've seen stranger things.

Also: I hope Indmar is forthcoming with CAN network codes for their engine parameters, so those wishing to tie in can obtain useful data... just sayin' out loud in case anyone is paying attention....
Indmar uses ZF/Hurth Transmissions in most of their applications. We also use a ZF with a Walter V-drive. The choice of the transmission is really up to the boat manufacturer ...we build the engine package the way the customer wants it.

We broadcast Data Trouble Codes on our CAN network that the gauge manufacturers can display or that can be read using Diacom Diagnostic Software.

Damn I sure hope they don't switch.. The only reason I was going to upgrade to a new boat was for the 550.... I want nothing to do with INDMAR... My local guy here that worked for Tommys forever said hes never seen so many issues with engine failure untell they switch to Indmar... If this is the case I am pretty sure I am gonna try out a different boat company...

I know there all chevys lol. but One guy vs the next guy building them is HUGE.. He said he has seen more Indmar engine come apart than any other manufacture. He has been in the business for over 20 years.

You do realize that PCM, Indmar, Merc, Ilmor (other than the 7.4) all buy long blocks from GM, right? So the "guy building them" is the same insofar as internals are concerned. All that's different is the ECM tune fuel injection, intakes, and cats/exhaust.

We have been working on Mastercrafts and Malibus for years and never had an engine come apart unless the customer injested water , we have worked on an equal amount of Nautiques and never experinced any issues there either with PCM , we are in a harsh salt enviroment and see hundreds of hours per boat and every manufacturer has there own quiks but nothing major with any, the best most durable engines we ever had was the Ford 351 , esspecially the GT 40 injected, I cant tell you how many still come in and have never been apart , just normal maintence.
