What surf board for beginners ?

    Hey guys,

I'm fairly new to boats and so are my friends. Most of us are big guys (6'2"-6'5") 200-250 lbs. what would be a good board to start out on ?

We have been riding a liquid force fish 5.0 but I was told that board might be too small and hinder going wireless.

What are your guys thoughts/recommendations ,

    Thanks !

We are about the same weightsand have a Cortez 5'4". Love it for beginners. I also have a 5' koal that seems a little bit harder to ride

260lbs and use a Grindwater Maucha, I'll warn you that the board does ding up quite easily though. I found the nose doesn't dive as easily at the bottom of the wave as some of the other less buoyant boards.

6'5"-250lbs, my usual board is a hyperlite broadcast. Last night I got to try a Ronix Cortez 5'4 . I believe this is the board Kyle mentioned. It was super easy to find the sweet spot on the wave. My wife who had been trying to go wireless actually did it for the first time on that board. Looks like I may be able to put off getting some custom sacs for another year . Compared to the Cortez the general consensus for us is the Broadcast is junk for heavier riders.

Inland Surfer Blue lake worked for me- but I'm closer to 210. I think they goto 250

a beginner board can be build for you as well. This insures your first season on the water be to it maximum poetical....know that the cheaper ones can serve a purpose as well. they can be used as stepping stones and replaced with another $400 board as you improve, or you can get 1/4 the amount of boards by going custom and having the board built to your style and needs....its all in how you want to get there....

example: some can grow out of a off the shelf board (not bad mind you) in 1 month or keep for 2 years and never progress or just except the boards limitations and surf.

If you'd like to talk more email me and I'll share what I have learned as an owner/operator of a wakesurf demo/ promotion company. The choices can be endless and given a direction can keep you from pitfalls that hurt your wallet and your surfing experiences and thats no good.
