We now return you to our reularly sceduled program:
Originally posted by talltigeguy I asked Tige M.D. about this (on this site a while back) and he said they work great...until they break. I think that they break rarely, but if the isolator breaks, you are guaranteed two dead batteries.

Let me know what tag you want.
As far as non employees or dealers it is domslude, David and Ruune.
raythompson, tweirich, draginass and talltigeguy are close in line.
WHAT'S THAT SONNY, I CAN'T HEAR YOU. YOU NEED TO USE BIGGER LETTERS. Sorry about that. Just installed a new key board today. Yes it was actually stuck in caps.

Uhhhh, I'm confused. The isolator runs between the two batteries right?
Now if the isolator did break, wouldn't it just cut power to the second battery? If you are using the first battery to start with and the second to run accesories off of, wouldn't you still be able to start. Worse comes to worse, couldn't you just disconnect the isolator and link the batteries?
Can you use the isolator set up with the three battery rig like we have? Is there an advantage to it if you have the three like we do? Right now I have the Perko switch... Thanks...wrangler
BTW, I too am humbled to be posting with such esteemed senior members!!!
While I currently rank number 18 on the post list, I think we should probably have a three word post whore thread on the off topic area for those competitive fools like me who want to make the top ten!!!
My understanding is that when an isolator breaks, it usually breaks in the position of linking both batteries. Therefore, you run the accessories for a while thinking you are only running one battery down, then poof! you can't start your boat.
Wrangler,
The isolator can be used with multiple batteries. One guy on wakeworld (grant with Sound Illusions) uses an isolator for 1 starting battery and 9 (yes, NINE) batteries for the stereo. Someone asked where to mount their Perko switch once and he responded to mount it in the garbage and get an isolator. So there are some very knowledgeable people who like isolators.
Ya know, I've never killed a battery in this boat before. I think I'll just stick with the isolator for now. So long as they break in the open possition, I'll chance it. The new head unit I put in has a volt meter that I can keep an eye on if I'm too lazy to turn the key and check the volt meter on the dash.
See that? Edited. Yeah. No "one more thing" posts here. No "filler" to pad my numbers. Just pure 100% Tige Geek.
