Just bought my first boat! 2002 21i

Yup finally after lots of saving I have a boat of my own. I wish I knew more about Tige/boats in general but Im really hoping to learn off of this site and others.

The boat has 138 hours on it. I want to replace the trans oil, motor oil, belt and sea water pump before I take her to far. Also I might add a second battery.

Anything else you guys think I should replace before summer gets under way?

Also I might need some help finding some parts or parts that will work in there place for odd stuff on the boat.

Hows the steering cable? Might take the cover off the raw water pump on the front of the motor and check the impeller. Does it have a heater or shower? What engine do you have in it? Stereo? Hows the upholstery? Sorry for 21 questions but I have an 04 21i and have done a ton of work to get it looking "new" again. Post up pics!!

Your pretty well on track: oil, oil filter, fuel filter, trans oil, impeller. 2nd batts not a bad thing to add depending on battery loads from stereo system or other loads. Blue Seas Add A Battery kit is an easy way to go.
What kind of parts are you looking for engine or hull? Some are easy to find some are very hard to find depending on what you are looking for.

Welcome and congratulations....lets see some pictures of your new boat!!

A 2002 with 138 hours I'd add fresh gas to the list. Siphon as much of that fuel out of the tank as you can (use it in your car or lawnmower), and fill up with fresh gas before you go out. Old gas in boats can make an afternoon miserable.

I'd hang off on installing a second battery (just make sure the one in the boat is good and holds a good charge). Use the boat a bit before you put any modification into it, you will have a better idea of what and where you want to add items. If your boat doesn't have a Perko style switch I'd add one of those and turn the battery off when not in the water (you can even get one with two battery terminals for when you want to add your second battery).

And for you first boat I'll give you a few items to help you on your way:
1) Direct drives & V drives have very little control while driving in reverse. And with the rotation of these props the boat will naturally turn towards the drivers side of the boat.
2) Check your drain plugs before you leave home! (there should be two, one at the back and one T handle in front of the motor).

I just picked up an 02 21ir last fall as well. We upgraded from an 18' I/O bowrider I am absolutely loving this boat.

Good luck with the 21i, I bought mine last spring after 20 years without a ski boat. Great boat, I love mine. If its a marine power efi it's probably got the g- force fuel pump, opening up the fuel filter housing was almost impossible! Check threads here. I also found loose electrical connectors under dash, not sure if that's a normal problem. I am now changing my steering cable also. There's some good info here, congrats
