    Random hose

I have a hose that is blocked off on one end and the other end seems to be connected to the bottom of the engine oil pan. What is it for? And do I need it?

Sounds like the standard oil drain hose. Theoretically you can stick it out through the transom drain hole to drain the engine oil by gravity, though my transom drain hole isn't large enough to pass the hose or its fitting. But by far the best approach is to connect that hose to a vacuum fluid extractor like the MityVac 7400, which will turn oil changes from a lengthy, messy chore to a five minute pleasure.

X2 you can change your oil while your boat is in the water. It's a 15 minute job or less depending on your preparation.I use a freezer zip lock bag for the oil filter and the above pictured vacuum pump. Also bring a funnel to aid in refilling.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

The gravity hoses work but seem to take hours to drain when the oil is cold. On my D-drive I just pop the hose out and let it drain all night and fill it back up in the morning. Makes for an easy clean oil change on that style of hull. But its a lot harder to get the hose out on a v-drive if it even fits out the hole like WA was saying, so pump probably your best bet. Alot of places also sell a little 12volt pump that works decent.
