    Prop corrosion or defect?

This weekend I pulled off my old 537 and installed the new 1631. I then noticed that the old prop (been running it around 2 years) had probably 5-10 small discolored spots. Looking closer at them, I realized that in the center of each discolored area is a little pit in the metal. Since I have an even older 537 that came new on the boat and was run for a couple years, I looked at it but could not see any of these little spots.

Does anyone know what these might be? Our boat is stored on a lift in the summer, so I doubt that it came from corrosion due to water or galvanic action. From the appearance, I was thinking maybe they are inclusions of some sort from casting. Thoughts?

Finally - is there any reason to be concerned using this prop again? We have been using it for two years, so I would think the likelihood of a failure is low, but wanted to feel out the group for opinions. Sorry for the low quality pics, and thanks for any input.

Weird. It certainly looks like its being eaten from the inside-out. I'd have to agree with your theory but, perhaps Acme has seen it before. ???
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Looks to me it was an impurity in the raw material before they machined the prop. We see that kinda stuff a lot with thicker pieces of raw material, we typically deal in steels and castings. I'd give Acme a call and see what they say about it.

Quagga Zebra muscle? Probably not since you keep it on a lift. Good luck Dingleberry! I think the pictures are good enough quality.

OK, after Nicky and Ruger both suggested it, I contacted ACME through their website. Great response time - I think they gave me an answer less than an hour after I sent them pics. Here is what they said:

Hi Erick, we took a look at it; you have absolutely no worries in running the Acme 537. They appear to be minor inclusions from the casting. It will not affect performance of the boat or longevity of the prop.

Thanks for the comments on here, and big thanks to ACME for their fast reply
