    Newb battery question

    Hey guys,

I just picked up my new Z3 with the dual battery option.

It has the battery switch with "off" "single" and"both" options.

Do I just always run it on "both" when using the boat ? Do I switch it over to single when the boat is off and just listening to tunes ?

Sorry for what might be a dumb question.

    Travis.

Off when the boat is not in use i.e trailered or slipped, on when on the water, combine for emergency start.

Tige uses a 4 post dual-circuit switch with a diode isolator. The house loads, such as the stereo are always isolated from the the main cranking bank with the switch in the off or on position, yet the house bank reveives a charge from the alternator while the engine is running.

      Thank you sir.

I will run it on the down position unless emergency start is required I will switch the both setting.

      Thanks again chpthril !

Perfect that is one of my questions as well. One more if I hook a ctec charger to the main battery will it charge the house as well ? Is there a specific position the switch has to be in for this to happen ? Or do i need two chargers? Thanks Grant.

ideally you will want either 2 Ctek chargers or a 2-bank charger. Those 2 batteries will be used in entirely different manors and should be recharged/conditioned as such. When combined, the charger sees both batteries as a single load, even though they will be a different static rates.

So my boat is coming out of storage, I should put my battery charger on each battery individually to make sure they both see a full charge?

I have never had to charge my battery's after bringing them out of storage.

During storage batteries dissipate their charge. Typically the further a battery is discharged and the more frequently this happens is part of what can cause short battery life. This pertains more to the starting battery than the deep cell. Our dealer has always charged our batteries for us as part of spring “run out”. I would rather get to the water knowing I have sufficient battery power to have a good time then the boat not start the first time out. Food for thought.
