Broken Acme prop Puller

I got a little bit of crap on another forum for recommending this. Idiots. Put the grease on so that you or the next guy in 3 years doesn't have the same problem. He thought that since it didn't say it in the instructions from acme, then it wasn't a good idea. It is a good idea, and will make your next prop change a much more friendly experience.

Talltigeguy..... My new Acme C-Clamp Prop Puller I bought from Mike's liquid audio specifically RECOMMENDS adding grease. I can snap a pic and upload if you would like to have some Acme instruction manual vindication.

So back at it tonight and after making probably 5 full rotations of the prop, doing this above, it finally broke loose!! SUCCESS!! Got so tired of tightening down the puller, smacking it, then repeating I don't know how many times. But it finally gave way. Thanks everyone for the info! I love this forum. Everyone is so helpful.

Finally got around to pulling my prop and I thought it was never going to come off.

I kept telling myself, he went all the way around 5 times before it popped. I really didn't think it was going to go. There was absolutely no indication my efforts were making any progress at all. Then as I was tightening the puller (not even that tight yet), bang! Prop off!

Thanks for this thread guys. I don't think I would have had the patience without reading it.

I agree, it's not like you can see or feel the prop doing anything, but there must be subtle things happening at the prop/shaft interface because it does exactly what you said - no warning, then POP!

This post sounds all to familiar! Thanks to Chpthrl back in 09 I got a steal on a new prop and Weekend Saver kit. Using a hammer around the prop made me a little nervous and then when it finally broke loose I damn near pooped! Good to hear no inadvertent damage occurred and hooray to shiny new brass!
