Low cost transom step for my 22V

I built a step for the transom on my 22V last week and just thought I would share since it seems to be a pretty common complaint with these boats. The material is a sythentic trex type of decking board from Lowes and I just cut the supports so they basically wedge in between the transom and the grab bar. I had an old sheet of gator grip so I cut strips and put them on any of the bearing edges that were touching the fiberglass or the grab bar. It isn’t nearly as nice as some of the NC machined aluminum options that have been discussed in here but for the price I am pretty happy with it. When I have time I will dress it up by touching up the cut ends with paint and probably covering the top with gator grip.

That's awesome! That was a common complaint from people on my 22v. It always made me nervous when my niece or nephew would climb up or down. If one of them slipped and got a leg or arm stuck in that grab bar it could cause broken bones!

Good job, you will love the step. My design is much more complicated, sometimes I over complicate things. At the end of the day you are going find that the step only makes your boat more enjoyable. I think it would be even better if you could get it closer to the grab bar. Good job

Thanks guys. Yeah we have used it a couple of times now and I can already tell it will be a big improvement. I tried to keep it high to make it easier to sit on while putting on boards but I may move it down at some point if the step feels high. Guy, I still really like your design and the other cad designed one on here recently. I think both of those are nicer than mine I was just looking for something simple so I can save up for my other projects.

Mine was the CAD one and I can tell you that yours will function as well as I can imagine mine will. Nice work.
