When I bought my boat several years ago the guy I bought it from told me that one of the pulleys had been shimmed with washers. The pulleys never looked straight so I didn't understand why he did that. It creates black dust all over the motor and the air cleaner has been sucking that. So today I took off the washers and the pulleys looked perfectly straight. I thought I was in the clear until I started me boat. The belt almost came off. I'm not understanding what is going on. I have read a little that there are others that have had this problem, but I don't know what to do to fix it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like the PO was on the right track with the shims, but maybe it needed a little more or little less. Which pulley was the one shimmed? You may have to hunt up an actual shim kit as opposed to just a standard washer, in order to get more precise result.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Not sure what engine you have, but maybe this TSB will help?

That is exactly what mine was doing... went through a lot of belts until I found what TeamAllen posted... I used to alway shred one of the rivits on the belt. Now everything has worked as advertised! I also replased the two pulleys on the top end of the motor along with their brackets... http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec..._nbr=827680+98 try this site when referencing your motor.. just make sure it is the right serial number... might have to plug in your motor.. mine is a 2001 2100V LE.. Let us know what you find... more people have had this issue than you know..
