Precision Boats in Idaho is a Joke!

It's been we'll documented that i was headed up today to buy a 2007 22ve. The sales guy told me it was a great deal, very clean and that it had a few rock chips in the gel coat. I can handle a few rock chips. Who doesn't have a few chips and scratches in their boat? After looking at many pics, several phone discussions, we agreed on a price and I put down a deposit.

I took the day off work, loaded the family in the car and made the 4 hour drive north to Idaho Falls, Idaho. When I saw the boat for the first time I felt like I'd been kicked in the crotch. The interior was super clean but the outside was trashed. He said a few chips, what he meant was a few hundred chips. My wife thought the front of the boat was simply covered in specks of mud, when in fact it was covered in rock chips. The hull was also trashed. The previous owner clearly beached this boat on lava rock as there were too many to count thumbnail size chunks missing out of the hull. And the trailer??? It looked like it along with the boat had been towed regularly behind a gravel truck. The axles, undercarriage, and fender fronts were all down to bare metal and looked as though it had been sandblasted with buckshot.

This is the most dishonest representation I've ever experienced and I've been approached by transvestites in Tiajuana. All this sales guy had to say for himself was he told me it had some chips in it. This was pure dishonesty and Precision Boats in Idaho has zero credibility, steer clear of these guys. I figured it was a Tige dealer so they would of course shoot me straight. I drove 8 hours round trip with 3 kids, took a day off work, and burned a tank of gas and this guy only had a "sorry" for me. What a joke!

Sorry to hear. I don't know how many boats I looked at that were in pristine condition from CO to UT to WY and ID. Unfortunately I kept bumping my budget up to find one that wasn't trashed.

Skip I'm afraid I'm headed into that cycle. Talked to a guy today about an rz2 which is going about 4k more than I wanted to go. My 2004 Switch was immaculate!

I looked at many of the boats on KSL. Funny that some of them were on there year after year.

Thankfully that was the only thing they did right.

Sorry to hear it went so badly and glad to hear you got the deposit back. I wish I would have known, my son is at school in Rexburg. He could have shot over to heck it out. I didn't even know there was a dealer there? I guess it doesn't really matter if they misrepresent their used boats that badly.

I wouldn't buy it just because I would be wondering what else was wrong with it...but I do wonder how much it would cost to fix the fiberglass... and if they would take that price off of the boat.

Sorry to hear about that, Ute. Good luck with the next one. Just think, if he had put 1-2K into it to fix the gravel chips, you would be in your garage now admiring your Tige.
                    Be excellent to one another.

...and probably dealing with other, unseen issues. You got lucky on this one, because you found out it had problems BEFORE you bought it. Anyone who would treat the very visible hull like that - how do you suppose they treated the engine?!?

I was thinking the same thing. There's no way he was religious about oil changes, etc... This experience has made me gun shy about finding a good out of state deal. My first Tige was 6 hrs away, I bought private party and it ended up being a great find. I love this boat and even with shipping I think it's a good deal but not sure I'm willing to take the gamble. Anyone near Arlington???

If your willing to buy a smaller boat I gurantee my 20V to be the nicest boat you see in person. If your not satisfied when you come to woodward oklahoma I will pay for your gas here and back. But you would have to act quick. I'm only gonna sell it for 28k for 2 more weeks. If i end up borrowing the whole balance for my new boat I will just sit on it until i get 30500. You can see my boat on ebay onlyinboards.com and boattrader.com. Pisses me off when people pull that s###. At least be up front about problems the boat has.

I took the picture into my photo program and enlarged it on the starboard side and oh my god. Chips gouges in the front and almost at the transom. This hull is trashed. I neevr looked at pricing but Chris's 20V has it beat hands down. Anyone who buys Chris's 20V will feel like they got a late model-new 20V. It is exceptionally clean.

my boat came from them thru tyrell at prestige in boise. I asked for pics of the boat and all they could send were some simple flip-camera pics. they told tyrell that they don't have the capability to take hi-res pics. also would not email digital pics. said they don't know how. I really got the impression from him dealing with them that their primary market is fishing. really bought my boat sight-unseen thanks to their technology-challenged staff.
not complaining today, but I wouldn't deal with them one-on-one..

I'm glad he found the boat there and I didn't have to deal with them..
