Been trying to point this one out for a while now to all my friends. Notice how the screaming about gas prices two years ago was very prominent when it got up to $1.60 from $1.20 something, then it backed down to $1.30. Then we hit a jump up to $2.00 and everyone screamed and it dropped back to $1.80. Then it hit $3.00 during katrina, and it was all the news could talk about... It finall dropped back lower BUT not back to what it was. It never dropped back below $2.00 except for more than a week and yet no one screamed b/c it was better than $3.00. Now we're almost back to $3.00 and people are starting to grumble a bit more... but when it hits $4.00 no one will complain when we go back down to $3.00.

The sad part is I do better when oil prices are up as ALOT of my clients are "oilies". But considering I drive 150-200 miles a day, I don't do as good as I should. At least it's a write off. Being in a state that has ALOT of oil money floating around, my state thrives at times like this. At least there are lots of "high paying" oil jobs for the folks w/o a college degree.
Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.

Just to set the record straight, in my second post the only thing from me is the first 3 lines. My purpose of posting the article was to support Matt's claim of the intent of the email. Accordinging to Snopes, Urban legend.com and other similar sights that email from G-Money is referred to as "Recycled Cyber Dribble". None of what is in the post is from me nor my discussion.

In my 3rd post I gave an opinion that I agreed with the author of the article.

Personally, in my opinion buying gas from only selected stations and or reducing demand will not work as it is not reality. That is why I created savings in what I can control.

I purchased a car that gets double the miles of my truck. I reduced my commute over 80%. This equates to real money in my pocket.

      Old commute 500 miles a week, 26000 miles/year divided by 13 mpg = 2000 gallons of gas per year @ $3 /gallon = $500/month

      New commute and car, 100 miles per week, 5200 miles per year/26 mpg = 200 gallons per year @ $3/gallon = $75/month

Savings over $400/month. Other benefits is my overall insurance bill for cars in AZ and CA is $400/year lower, Registration on the truck is $100 lower than CA.

Now you can help me out since i am buying less gas please frequent my corner Shell Station on weekends and Maverick Station in Havasu as they have the lowest prices in the city so the owners wont feel the loss of me buying less gas.

Also my family is going out to eat only once/week instead of twice so could you frequent Cask and Cleaver, Macaroni grill and Tony Romas in Southern California and Krystal's, Javalena Cantina and the Goldon Horseshoee in Havasu for me. I hate to see the retaurant owners and servers be hurt since I have decided to spend my money elsewhere.

So for me I will use less gas and spend less money and you can continue using the same amount and filling up at non Exxon/Mobil stations. Neither of our actions will affect the price of gasoline. I can control how much I need to buy and my savings will go towards a ballast system and Fresh Air Exhaust.

Sorry for the long post, just couldn't stop -

Ps - one more benefit of the truck in AZ is the cool Arizona License Plate, I drive by the Havasu Police and Mojave Sheriff as they pull over the out of staters and just smile.
      Let it be!!!

You are correct. Its your reply with a reference to another document,
which you apparently support. You must also include in your savings the cost of oil changes and tires and maintenance. With all the savings that you mentioned plus adding the ones for oil, tires and maintenance it appears that you can now again afford to eat twice a week at the restaurants.

Never said I couldn't afford to eat out my friend. You need to read the posts more carefully!

I never said you couldn't afford to eat out. I said afford twice a week. You suggested you have gone from twice to once a week and I did not dispute you eating out once a week. I for one rarely eat at a restaurant at all so they will not benefit from me. Anyways, we can argue the language forever and I do not think that is the intent here at all. Maybe a little misunderstanding on both parts. Look at it this way, If We all conserve, there will be more natural resources, air etc for all of us to enjoy. I am doing the best on my part and its obvious you are also and that is what is the most important here. All I was trying to do is point out various economic theories and methods of pricing and hopefully you at least agree that these variations do exist. Nothing personal intended. o.k.?
Have a great summer and enjoy the boat. Hope the prices start to come down real soon.

Nothing Personal taken gman! My post was missing the little smiley face.

As we learned from our speed limit discussion there are many opinions on everything and who knows which is correct.

Read some disturbing reports at work regarding our transportation costs and according to the firm doing our studies gas is not going down anytime soon; just up.

Really strange at Havasu this weekend. More boats anchored and less boat traffic. People seemed to be boat ride sharing, park one boat in a cove and all hop into another boat for the boat runs. I didnt even launch the boat since it was kind of wind blown, hopped in my freinds new Advantage, what a gas hog!

Interesting to hear you mention at least the appearance of some behavioral change amongst our boating colleagues... I bet the summer traffice on the lake will be down considerably... I suspect we will think twice before running up to Topock for breakfast etc...

We can still go to Topock for breakfast. I will boat pool with my new friend Wrangler. He has lots of room in the 24VE

I saw an interesting site today on the way to the office. Now this is a statistic of one observation. Arco gas at $3.01 and full of cars lined up into the street.
Right next to it on the same side is Mobil a bigger station at $3.03 and only 1 car.

I used to be an ARCO user but using an atm card they have a 45 cents service charge. Now I use my local Shell Station on weekends when they beat Arco by 1 cent and use my chase rebate card. I get 5% rebate on gas so I come out ahead. Gotta get to shell early as it is becoming quite crowded.
