I am trying to get all my odds and ends tied up for summer... MY mirror didn't make it through the winter Wanted to get some opinions on what you guys are running. windshield mount or tower mount.
just curious to what will work and and be functional. My Windshield mount was in the way sometimes and The channels we run you need all of the forward visability you can get
I don't think there are many options if you have the Alpha z as far as tower mount. PTM edge is what I use and it's pretty sweet for a windshield mount although pricy
Another option is the Samson. I was going to go that route till I was able to get the PTM. I only needed the mirror and bracket, went with the Pro not the elite.
I used the Sampson Cipa 3 lens mirror off a tower bracket. Great vision on both sides of the wake. I was lucky because when insurance replaced the e-series tower I destroyed going under a low carport I was able to upgrade to Sampson Razaor with fore and aft lites and wakeboard and ski racks and cipa mirror.
I couldn't find a mirror arrangement that didn't block too much of my forward view, so I installed a backup camera system that is sold for cars and trucks. Works absolutely awesome with a seven inch screen sitting on the dashboard above the driver's console, protected by the windshield. The camera is mounted on the tower in one of the unused speaker holes. I have excellent vision rearward and 100% unobstructed vision forward too, all for under $200.
Here's a shot of the camera, and the little plexiglas bracket I made for it:
...and here's how the screen looks from the driver's perspective:
These photos were taken during the first season with the camera installed. I have since run its cable through the tower, so it disappears through that little grommet behind the bracket. Looks almost factory. We get a lot of compliments on it.
