    mold on boat cover

I have no vents on my boat cover so every time a little moisture gets in the boat and then it warms up, the steam gathers on the cover and I find mold spots if I don't air it out in time.

I have tried scrubbing the cover with soap in the past and it didn't seem to help much. Do any of you know what can clean this without ruining the fabric?

While we're on this subject, I was told boat covers are supposed to keep rain out, but breathe enough to let steam out. Yes/No?

If so what maintenance needs to be done to bet them breathe?

Not sure what to tell you on removing the mold, but you can eliminate moisture build-up inside the boat with one of those Dome Moisture Absorbers. I used to use this on my previous boat because the camper top didn't breathe at all.

I use TuffStuf to get rid of mold.
It comes in a yellow and red spray bottle or yellow squirt bottle.

You can get a snap in vent for about 8 buck from overtones.
Tige, it's a way of life!

I met a guy doing a demo @ the Orange County Boat Show this past weekend. He had a great product! I purchased some cleaner for the teak swim step and some vinyl cleaner. The company is based near Lake Elsinor. The product you need is called ADIEU MILDEW. There is no bleach in the product. It appears from their website they distribute it through local patio and boat stores. Try the store finder on their website.

The man selling the product was not some blaring salesman with a microphone. It was an old man, very confident and passionate about his product. His name was Gordon. I can only assume he is the Gordon of Gordon Feron & Co., Inc.

I have a moisture absorber but it hasn't been able to keep up with the rain that trickles through the 4 seams in the cover where the tower poles meet the fiberglass.

That is why I'm hesitant to put a vent in the cover. I'm afraid more water will get in, than steam goes out.

thanks for the names of the mildew removers.

I put vents in my cover last fall. So far they seem to be working. I also store my boat outside during the winter. I have been putting a large tarp over the boat cover using bungees to hold it on.
Any type of cleaner with ammonia in it will kill mold. It is hard to get rid of the stains. I think a pressure washer does about a good of job as anything to get stuff off of the cover.
