Hah! Not trying to be correct so much as to make sure we have correct lengths for what works on which models. As soon as I get to my 2009 RZ2 I am measuring the see where an 11.8 inch volvo penta tab might mount. They are only about $650-700; while not cheap that is doable!

That's what I'm saying. Seven bills ain't bad at all for the whole shooting match. It's so much cleaner of a product that it would be worth a compromise in effectiveness to some degree.

I wish I could find a schematic of how the actuall actuators work. WTF is going on inside them thar thangs? I can't figure out the motor/gear arrangement. It would seem to me to be some sort of rack & pinion set up. Anybody?

Some quick googling shows it is an electro-mechanical device with tiny gears with "plastic teeth". Oh, and that link says they are wired to the ignition circuit so auto retract when the engine turns off.

the slick way to use the penta tabs would be to mount them at a 45* angle across the transom corners, and then make a "blade" that mirrors the transom ala NSS. Then when you deploy the tab, it deploys both under the hull and to the side, just like NSS. That of course assumes a non-stepped hull back there.

The stepped hull is gonig to kill me on that kinda set up. It could be glassed in to fill in the step but would require a lot more work.

Ya, it says that but, it doesn't show chit. I'm looking for technical drawings of the inner workings. That thread was a long time ago and a current parts list shows a lot of revised mechanical parts (basically all of them). It doesn't say how they have been revised though.

I was thinking the same thing but, I don't think its feasible to mount a new plate to the mechanism. It would never be strong enough. You could however mount two sets on there (one vertical, one horizontal) if it was possible to wire them together. I'm pretty sure this is why the NSS went to a traditional type actuator. Way more strength with the connecting point being right in the corner.

Technically not a step. It's a spray pocket. I'm struggling with that part as well. I'm working on it though. I think we would need something that extends nearly 7 inches horizontally so that it could retract clear of the spray pocket and deploy two to three inches past the side of the hull. It would actually give you something like the NSS as you would have acting surfaces on the side and underneath. The problem lies in where all that chit sits. The platform brackets are right there. You would need to go under them. Not that big of a deal I guess. Might need new ones even. Not a deal killer.

I don't have 12 inches of room, tallest they could be is only 8

I tilted my surf gate to match the upper part of the hull and the bottom of the spray pocket vs just a vertical surfgate. But havent got to test it yet to see how that will affect everything. We just dont have a lot of room back there to work with for any type of actuator.

                        Correction

I stayed above the spray pocket with the surf gate but it is angled with the hull.

The actuators should fit. Look how close it is to the actual gate.

That's kind of the only realistic option at this point. I'm quite sure Ruger and I could do that type of set up. It's just so big and clunky.

I've heard how some people are talking about how the surfgate of NSS helps clean up their wake. I am curious that this may be due to the counter steering to stay straight while towing. For example, surfing port side the surfgate will be deployed on the starboard side. This makes the driver turn left. Depending on the boat turning left will help clean up the wave but not increase size.
                              Any thoughts on this?
Could this help Enzo's goofy side?

The theory is that it offsets the convergence of the two wakes, letting the surf side naturally form as opposed to battling the other wake for the same spot with the other wake. That should help any boat.
