Hmm, what's wrong with just using that as is? As long as it extends once you hit the throttle again, its perfect. It does say "...or a non-engine switch." Looks like a basic SPST switch.

I think as is it only retracts if it senses 0 rpms or you turn off the ignition, so it would not retract for turning to pick up a downed surfer. But if you wired it on a relay from the neutral safety switch, voila! Retracts automatically when you get a rider. Doesn't solve the manual deployment or overspeed retraction issues that are also programmed into surfgate, but sure gets you over the low speed handling hump.

Theres a lot of guys trying just bolt on or clamp on ones that leave them exended right now. Yes it hurts handling some but I dont think its as bad as a fully listed boat is. Hoping to get a test in soon on my throw together one to see what it does.

you deploy the surf gate on the side you're not surfing on so if I am surfing port side the gate is on the starboard side so when you turn right ( starboatd side ) it turns fine when you turn to the left ( port side) it takes about three times the area to do 180 degree turn I never went above 15 MPH since my gate was mounted permentally deployed so I can't comment on handling above 15 MPH. I am working on mounting mine with quick dissconect hinges and in time making them automated using kendo actuators .

One thing that comes to my mind is to have to limit switches on the throttle. The first one would be at a low rpm enough to give you roughly 7mph. This would activate a relay to deploy the gate. The 2nd switch would be at a high rpm roughly 15mph to de-activate the gate. It would take a little adjustment on the throttle linkage switch mounts to get it to work smoothly but could be somewhat easy vs a computer controled one which is way over my head.Last edited by Ruger761; 04-17-2013, 06:17 PM.
