    2003 21i Limited (Tower Problem?)

So, I just bought a 2003 21i Limited with new Fusion Speakers, lights, etc for like 28 grand (only 93 hours) so I think I got a pretty good deal.

My question lies in the Tower Construction. It is the factory tower that is installed on the boat, and it seems to sway and "jump" quite a bit. I used to own a 96 CC 196 that I had a BOSS tower fitted to and that thing was solid as a rock. I need to know if this is a common situation with this boat, or if I need to have the thing replaced. I don't want anyone getting hurt on the boat.

I also noticed that on the front drivers side where the tower attaches to the boat, the clear plastic spacer has slipped about 1/2" out of position, could this be the problem? There is just a lot of movement in the tower. Is everything ok?

    Thanks for any help.

    tower

I have an 03,21i with the factory tower and it feels solid as a rock.Something must be loose.Doble ck.and make shur all bolts are tight. If the plastic is not in place then the tower has been loose at one time I would think.I know they had problems with the older metcalf tower bolts working loose, not in 03 as far as I know.Let me know.

HAHA!! I Found out what the problem was!

It was missing a set screw! And the back/driverside attach point had no nuts on the bolts!!! WTF!!

I think that when someone added the speaker wire through the tower, they never returned the bolts!!! With only 93 hours on it, the previous owner probably didn't even really notice!

I cant wait till this weather gets better in Seattle!

      Thanks for your help.

Imagine that thing flying off and killing you when you were boarding.

The tower would not fly off with just the set screws missing. They just stop the mounts from rotating.

            No kidding!

The back of the tower wasn't connected to the boat!! I'm like 210 lbs, most of my buddies are 200+ so... could have been bad.

Ha, the set-screws seamed to reduce the vibration in the tower.

On a 2003 there should have been an aluminum plate laminated in to the hull and the bolts would have bolted directly in to them with out the use of nuts.

                You sure?

Because it's an 03 21i Limited, and I pulled the whole thing off the back of the boat. I took it into Pacific Nautiques, and they fixed it, so...

                I guess I'm not sure what's up.
