My steering cable got harder then heck to turn over the winter. It makes the ol lady hate to pull me wakeboarding, and I agree, it is a PITA to turn!! I know it should be an easy DIY, especially since its a DD. I just need some guidance on what part # or length to get. Also, where or who to buy from would be great!!

Steering cable for 04 21i?

Just asking but wouldn't he be better off going with the SSC1541X instead? If I am not mistaken the newer 15 number over the 13 is a better made steering cable. I could be wrong. The newer one can be had for $20 more, if it is better it seems like that would be the way to go.
PS the reason I put X is because in searching I have seen both 7 and 8 (17' and 18') for a 21i. I know for sure on the 22Ve it is 18.

The 07-08 RZ2s on the steering cable thread said they used a 19' cable, but when I pulled mine out it was a 21' cable and it was routed slightly differently from the previous models. From what I can tell the newer routing required less restrictive turns, meaning larger radius turns possibly to help with some longevity issues with the cables? I also got the Teleflex Extreme cable, it's more flexible than the standard cable and has better seals so it should last a little longer. It's also a good idea to store the boat with the steering wheel full left so the majority of the cable end stays in the jacket.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

I need to do my steering cable on my 2006 21i this year as well. I looked for the part # on the old cable 2 feet or so from the rack and I couldn't find it last year.
I did a search and the consensus seems to be 18' and this cable SSC15418... Is this correct?

I found my part number about 2' from the rudder connection. I would pull the old one and find the part number or measure it to be sure. Just pull it carefully if you can, I pulled mine to replace it and found I had ordered the wrong size, I had a 19' cable and had a 21' cable in the boat. Luckily I was able to put the old cable back so my weekend wasn't ruined.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

Yes, I pulled the old one and installed the new one. SSC13418 is the one that I pulled out of mine. I think I went with the 19 footer to be safe since I didnt pull mine out before I ordered it. The 19' was way to long. Just be sure to cut the cable towards the back of the boat. I didnt and it was a huge PITA the get out. I ended up cutting it up by the helm and was just going to leave the rest in the hull. But I finally got it out. Turned a 1 hour job into a 2.5 hour job I never thought my boat could turn that easy. It literally is one finger turning Definitely go with the new version steering cables. Well worth the extra costAin't no 1/2 steppin'
