300 lbs or even 500 for that matter wouldn't be that big of a deal. Gas and gear, etc explains that. But 1000?? Jreis you say that the Z3 weight is accurate and only the RZR/R20 weight is wrong?? That doesn't make any sense. So are you saying they weigh all their boats properly except for one? That would imply that they know that they are cheating and are willingly doing it and on purpose. I would love to hear someone from Tige say that.
Just out of curiosity where did you hear that Tige is purposely and knowing lying about the weight, but just of the RZR/R20. But don't worry about the Z3 that weight is accurate. I'd like to speak with the Tige employee/ dealer who told you this. I wish my dealer had told me the RZR weighs just as much as a Z1.Last edited by boardman74; 03-29-2013, 09:10 PM.

Boardman,
Perhaps I came off a bit strong. My apologies. I certainly wasn't trying to get you fired up. I'm not on an expert on how they come up with their published weights. However, I know enough to know that it is going to be well under what it actually is. I will agree that it would be nice if they were more accurate. 25% is pretty damn far off base. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

No issue Nicky, some of it just makes no sense. What upsets me is that people are saying that Tige is knowingly lying about the weight, but just on the R20/RZR, which is what I happen to own. I want to know where that information is coming from? Because its not what the factory is submitting to the public.
Dom, Tower is an option on the RZR and R20??? Not according to my dealer or the Tige spec sheets. Ever seen one without it? The price sheets I'm staring at say they are standard. Alpha Z looks to be an option on the RZR. But looks like the Vector tower is the standard.
Joe I did factor in the trailer. If I recall it's right around 900(single). Package weight according to published was right around 4K on a single axle. Imagine my surprise when I read that its closer to 5K on the trailer. Starts to make me wonder am I in trouble towing a 4K boat on a single axle in the first place??

That's 300-500 lbs difference from the dry weight to actual empty weight, which varies based on the options installed. When you add your boards, life jackets, towels, tool box, anchor, full tank of gas, that adds up to possibly 1,000 over the listed dry weight for when you haul the boat to the lake. I'm about to pull my boat out for the summer and I'm going to do some trailer Mx so I'll put the boat in the water, keep the empty trailer for a few days and I'll get it weighed by itself, and I'll try to get the boat weighed fully loaded with a tank of gas and full cooler and all the necessities and see how it all adds up compared to the dry weight and the weight of my trailer from the trailer placard.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

there was a discussion in a thread here, which i cannot find likely due to maintenance, about the fact that the rzr/r20 were weighed differently (idk how) than the other boats to fit size restrictions on lakes in florida which limit boats to 20 ft/3200lbs and hence explaining that they weighed the boats with size restrictions in mind, hence the sudden drop in weight. As you said your boat has minimal options i am willing to bet it weighs around 3500lbs or a bit more like the 2011 weight recommends, hence the reason i warned you on WW about skimping on the lift at 3800 lbs because with gas, youre at 3800... get a single axle trailer, and tow it, just put no gear or gas in it. isnt it staying at a cottage? We safely tow ours with a 5000lb rated hitch and we ticked a vast majority of the options boxes, including the 5.7 liter motor, all the ballast, all the stereo we could get etc We tow 2hrs to the lake from the dealer in may, and back in the fall. Your boat doesnt weigh 4300 lbs like a z1. it probably weighs 3500-3700.
You'll be fine. it sounds like you hardly trailer it. and youll probably be right at your trucks capacity, so whats the big deal? as long as its safely within the trucks limits, its not like youre towing an hour each way to the lake 3x a week like some of these guys
Hopefully someone who knows will chime in but i would be very concerned if our 20 footer weighs 1200lbs less than mc's and 900 lbs less than malbu's.... that means significantly less fiberglass
also keep in mind that the boat test boat has 5.7, tower of power pro 80s and full gas. The tower of power sound system weighs likely over 100lbs alone, could be more if you include the wiring, hardware etcLast edited by JreisRZR; 03-30-2013, 03:21 AM.

We don't trailer much as we do have a lake place. But I was hoping to bring it home a few times throughout the summer to ride around the metro area. We are 3 hours to the cabin each way so this negates that. If it weighs 3500 that puts me right at max with the trailer. It takes away my options on how we use the boat. Like I said one of our reasons for purchase was being within our safe trailering capacity. I would never have bought a boat I couldn't tow within my vehicles capacity. I did that once and it cost me a transmission then a new truck. Vehicle will do it I am sure, but won't like it and won't do it a lot. Will for sure tow it with nothing in it and no gas. If that is how that boat is weighed it needs to be explained to customers prior to sale. If all the other boats are at or very near their claimed weights and the RZR/R20 isn't close that is deceitful/ false advertising or dishonest. However you want to say it. I don't care about it weighing under 3200 lbs for some private lake in Florida nor do 99% of the other buyers.
Houston shark...If it were that easy I would. I bought the boat in November and have never taken deliver of it. But The dealer has my boat(trade-in), my down payment, and I have made 5 payments on the new boat to the bank. So I can just tell them I don't want it? Do you think they will say ok and take it back and return my boat and money?? That would be awesome if so. I figure with the new house this summer will be mostly shot anyway. Anyone with a wife and a new house purchase knows what I am talking about. Be nice to not have the payment and have my older paid off boat not getting used vs the brand new one I'm making payments on.

Not really intending to add a little fuel to the fire, but a 4500lb towing capacity is the max. Ever tow anything at a vehicle's max weight, especially with a non truck? They all suck. I have towed 900lbs (I weighed it) with a honda that was rated at 1500, it was horrible. If we are dealing with a 1/2 ton truck, I wouldn't worry much, the frame can hold more. Being that it's 4500, sounds like a v6 SUV. If it is an SUV with a V8 option, the frame can hold more weight and be less cause for worry. As it goes now, there is a good potential to smoke the tranny, and add a single axle to a vehicle that is overweight, look out folks. Now, if you are towing on flat land, maybe. Towing a few miles, maybe. Anything else sounds sketchy to me. Better to be safe, than.......2007 RZ2 Marine power 340hp Custom ballast

Well you've been given a lot of different options by multiple different people here. The inherent variability of owning a handmade product and a full tank of gas, and engine fluids and you're at 3500lbs easy. Tell the dealer to go weigh the boat for you to ease your mind. Who knows maybe this is a BS rumor and tige cut a lot of corners and miraculously trimmed 400lbs worth of fiberglass from the boat? It's either one or the other so i guess pick your poison...

I guess I don't see what you mean by options. First thing is to get it on a scale. If its indeed that much heavier than advertised only option is keep it and not be able to safely tow it or sell it.
What are the other options? Returning it like a shirt you don't like certainly isn't one!! Dealer isn't going to just say.."yeah Tige lies about the weight for those guys in Florida..you figured it out let me write you a check!"Last edited by boardman74; 03-30-2013, 04:04 AM.

Another option given was to trade sideways for a similar age vehicle with higher towing capacity.
Have the dealer deliver it/pick it up for storage (it'll be a lot cheaper than a new truck).
What kind of vehicle do you have that's 4500? That's kind of a goofy tow capacity, mid size SUV's usually tow 5, 6, or 6.5 k, small ones usually 3.5k...

Ive been towing every model we make for years all over with a 1999 jeep cherekee 4.0l ,162000 miles never had any problems, as far as bogus info on weight , thats hog wash in my opinion, my 2004 20i 6.0l weighed in at 3200lbs, thats a 20 foot boat 96 inches wide , R20, RZR, is 20 foot 94, my bet is 3100 is dam close and weighed without options, if weight was main concern you could have had dealer weigh a boat in inventory to get a rough idea before purchase .Last edited by dom w. forte; 03-30-2013, 11:14 AM.
