Horn suggestions for my 2000 20ci.

2000 20ci, Mo. ozarks. My boat horn is located up under the dash. I am the only one that can hear it... I want a new one this spring. The closed bow on my boat angles down. An air horn will tilt down a bit. I like the air horn single trumpet 9" long with a compressor @ 126db. I think the tilt down will look wierd. I am considering a small double mini electric horn deck mounted w/ 112db., or the AFI Internataional Shorty @ 123db. Any body have a better idea? M&M

No, but I HATE the horn in my 24Ve. Sounds like a Yugo with a low battery. My Seadoo jetboat had more acoustic authority. I've considered replacing it, but like you said it's buried down inside the boat so the only way it's going to get better is to cut another hole above the waterline. Not sure it's worth that.

I keep a portable air horn under my seat for emergencies, such as a boat coming up from behind too close when I have a rider down in the water or if people are just swimming. I have it because a mounted horn only projects the noise off the bow but you can't hear it if your behind the boat. I bought the biggest loudest air horn I could from west marine, I think it's loud enough for a 60' boat or something like that, it doesn't list the dB on the can.

That's a good idea. I think (?!) we have one too, though I believe it's a smaller version than the monster you're describing! But I've always thought of ours as a last-ditch emergency tool, not as a substitute for our wimpy OEM horn.

I've been thinking about getting one out of an '84 Buick Riviera. They sound just like a locomotive and are nearly as loud. I'm pretty sure the horns Tige uses are the bare minimum Coarse Guard requirement. There is no way in hell anybody outside of my boat is hearing my horn. I too keep a hand held air horn in close reach if I actually need to get someone's attention.

We keep a refillable air horn on the boat. I think I bought it off Amazon. It looks like a normal air-can air horn but has a valve on the bottom that we can hook up the air hose to in order to recharge it.

It's the physical placement/installation I can't resolve. A horn mounted externally on the deck or tower would look lame.

I know Bayliner used to use a deck mounted enclosure that looked like a vent, if you will. To the casual observer, you would never even notice.

Yep, my Seadoo jetboat had one almost exactly like that. The horn mounted directly to it and the sound was directed right out of the hull. Thanks for the link.

Hmm... "Edit Post" doesn't seem to work, so here's a photo of the one on my jetboat.

Oops, never mind, linking to photos doesn't seem to be working either. Here's the LINK to a photo:

I'm with all of you. I feel like I'm the only one that can hear my horn. I'm going to pick up one of those hand held air horns this weekend. The bigger the better! I've had a couple of instances where a boat came way too close while we were switching riders.

i put in a three trumpet air horn from harbor freight last year. sounds great on the trailer but out on the water not so much.

maybe go with something like this if you have the room?

2000 20CI, MO. Ozarks. Well, I made up my mind about horns. I ordered a single 13.5" brass/chrome horn with 120 psi pressure tank & compressor. Air Horns of Texas had the most for the least I could find. Cannot wait to get it installed. Inexperienced boaters will get out of my way now. M&M

Mounting an air horn sound like a good idea but it seems somebody inside the boat will get a ear full as well. Disposable air horn it is....but need to mount it close and convenient. It always ends up in a place that where it can't be found when you need it.
