Ok so we are enjoying some quasi-warm weather here in Houston so my buddy and I decided to take our wives and kids out on the boat and try out this surfing thing thanks to the new sac we got from Mike's Liquid Audio. (Thanks Mike!!!!! it was awesome!!!!).

I guess to preface this story, I have an 07 22Ve, which I think is God's gift to watersports, but some with larger wallets may think of as a middle of the road wakeboard boat.

Anyway, we are having a tough time figuring out how to surf and the wake kept coming in and going out (later realized that shallow water = no wake). So we notice this other boat in the area and the guys wakeboarding behind it are back flipping and all kinds of crazy stuff so we decide to stop and ask their input. They had a Super Air Nautique 210 which looked like something we saw at the boat show a few weeks back. Well, the guys were a bit standoffish when we asked them for some pointers. We maintained a friendly/chatty tone and tried to get them to open up, but they never really did. One guy said, "Well, supposedly Tige is the boat to have if you are going to surf." And that kind of ended the conversation. It was said in a snarky tone and we decided it would be best to go about our merry way instead of pursuing the conversation further.


Well, we didn't think about it at the time, but now are starting to think there are some Tige haters out there. I mean if a guy came up to us and asked us how to get up wakeboarding, we would be thrilled to help them out and even offer to jump in and help teach - no matter what kind of boat they had. But, I think these guys had some serious issues with the Tige. I just don't know where it is coming from, I mean since buying the boat and joining this forum we have found nothing that indicates Tige owners are snobbish or conceited about our boats. What's with these haters?

Daggone - good for you guys to get out there and get wet.

Sometimes folks are just plain not fun. We get that 2-3 times a yr on our lake but most are very cordial/friendly. Tige thing can also be something local/regional.

As to surf setups......I love your boat because I have one too and we get a real good surf wave. What size bag is used? ST68 also has same model in 2008 version. We both have 1100 custom bags that go in rear locker and extend under seat on port side for reg surfing from Mr. Mike. That bag does a real good job by itself when you have 3-6 peeps onboard. When Scott and I go out by ourselves we add 2 manual fill 300 lb bags on seats and things rock. TAPS is usually 4-5 and I like 10.5 mph while Scott likes 11 or 11.2 mph for longer wave and he's lighter guy. I go about 250 so bigger wave is better for me. will pop some vids later when I have some time for reference or u can search on youtube with jbqb20. Good luck and pop some pics sometime.

I think its quite the opposite. You got the... "if you don't down a Nautique you aren't worthy".

Go over to WW and read up a little. If you don't own a Nautique, Mastercraft, or malibu you are a lesser form of life and thats probably what you saw.

Was it your regular riding spot? If not you might also been getting the.... "your on my lake". People are way territorial about their riding spots.

It might also be possible that they are surf haters instead of Tige haters. Perhaps they felt that your wave was negatively affecting the conditions. Just a thought.

I suspect that your surfing was messing up their good water.

Wakeboarders can be snobs like that...having been like that I know. Being pretty decent boarders, they have obviously spent some time working on it, and wish for everyone to stop surfing while they board.

I am going to go out on a limb and ask what age you think the guys were and make some derogatory statement about 'young people nowadays'.

The Nautique 210 is a mediocre surf boat, at best, so this was like asking Barack Obama how to reduce the size of the federal deficit.

Although there are certainly brand snobs out there, I suspect those other issues were more at play here than the type of boat.

Well, the guys started surfing after talking to us so I don't think it was a wake issue. I didn't think about the territorial aspect of it all. This is a relatively new spot for us as it is a channel that leads into the main lake. You have to have a permit and all that stuff to launch a boat in the area. We have been there a few times, but are not regulars.

I have to say it is a real sweet spot for wakeboarding - maybe that was it. They just don't like newbies treading on their turf. But, the comment that was made still makes me think they are haters.

Next time we are out I will take some pics and video and post it. That W712 fly high W712 sac from MLA is awesome!!!!

Don't feel bad, I have a sweet RZ4 and Tige folks around here give me the smug from time to time just because I'm a liberal democrat. Rorell.

Boat people are generally friendly always willing to lend a hand and a smile. Wakeboat people are a whole different breed of boat owners. The average mariner likes to lump wakeboat owners with jet skies owners. My previous foreman is an avid fisherman and detested anybody with a wakeboat or a jet ski because these types of guys are all about quiet and calm water. When a wakeboat or jet ski hits the lake, fishing time is over. Since he was a republican I had to fire him.

But to get right down to your concern, yes... absolutely. Mastercrap, POO and Nautique like to look down on Tige boats. Killing them with kindness and telling them how nice their boat looks will always neutralize the smug. Next time you see dem guys at the dock, tell them you love their boat and you'll have them in your pocket

There is no way you can be a liberal with an RZ4 - the carbon footprint would make Al Gore cry.

Well, let's just say it was a TAXing ordeal. I didn't want to SPEND any more of my resources trying to work with the guys out there. I was tempted to ABORT the mission altogether, but I SEQUESTERED myself because not fighting for Tige would be GAY.
