Wake Havasu
Havasu is a good three hours from Palm Springs.
How long does it take for you to get to P.S> from where you are in LA?
Also, take the Ehrenberg, AZ route rather than the Desert Center and Rice Rd route.
Its much, much safer.

Depends from where in LA and what day and time. I leave from Glendora and take the 15 to the 40. I leave saturday mornings at 5 am and get to my house in 4 hours with no boat. It is 270 miles. When I had to tow the boat it would take about 4 1/2 to 5 hours with 1 small stop in Ludlow. Ludlow is about 1/2 way. If you leave Friday nights add 1 to 2 hours to the timeLet it be!!!

Ditto what XPJim and Wake Havasu have said... We live in Covina and usually take the southerly approach through Ehrenberg and the reservation... The time is about the same...within 15 minutes either way... The 40 has been pretty busy with road construction over the last several seasons, so we have stayed to the south. You also miss the Vegas traffic if you are coming or going with the crowds at all... The 15 is getting pretty bad on a Friday or Sunday...

Some members on this board stress their concern for safety and setting good safe examples to their kids. Havasu, about 270 miles or more from the Covina area, it would take some one to drive 55 mph with no stops and never dropping below 55 mph to make it in 5 hours. Wrangler you have suggested you have made in 4 ½ to 5 hours with a stop and we all know there is also some city driving involved which is well below 55mph. That means that one would have to drive faster the 55 mph to make up for the lost time. I thought the legal towing speed limit is 55 mph. Seems like you are towing at an illegal /unsafe speed at times on the commute to the lake to make it in 5 hours or less.
Just want to be safe, where there is smoke…..Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. Albert Einstein

With respect to Wranglers towing speeds in California.
Its a political consideration not an actual saftey one.
In AZ we can run the speed limit.Last edited by Wake Havasu; 03-30-2006, 09:06 PM.

Does your set up change as you cross the Colorado River?
Why ist it safe in AZ to do 70mph with a trailer?

In calif its the law and its based on safety by california. Arizona may have different laws. You suggest its political. What do you mean by this? Other states also have 55. Are these also political because they are not 70? If you get there that fast with stopping and going through a city you are breaking the law, at least in calif. I'm glad you agree with me that its the LAW in Calif. By the way the faster you go the tougher it is to stop with a load/trailer. Also the faster you go then the bigger the accident and more possibility of loosing lives. Simple laws of physics.
Keep safe and drive wisely!

I disagree with its a 100% safety issue. Please follow the link to the study in Montana who had no daytime speed limit and when they enacted the Federal limits. Accident rates and fatalities went from a alltime low to major increases.

Many states bowed to the Feds for political reasons and funding but changed the infraction for speeding to a "Wasting of a natural resource" Violation. I recieved one of those violations and it was non chargeable and $10. Safety is road engineering and lowering certain vehicle speed limits creates a hazard in itself. When you are doing 55 and all the traffic behind you is doing at least 65 its an accident waiting to happen.
Many articles are written on this topic with varying views.
Happy Boating. Any one unsafe please stay away from the South end of Havasu. Please go to Copper Canyon, the channel or the sandbar!!Let it be!!!
