Low speed wake quality on Tige boats

We own a 2009 Supra 21V, bought used. Have had it for 2 seasons and unhappy with 2 wake related isssues:

    1) surf wave. If we put enough weight to really sink it, then the swim platform is well under water and creates all kind of wash, less and no push. Really hard to learn.

    2) wake: is like more L shaped than ramp: as beginner/intermediate wake boarders it's hard to get good jump because there is very little transition.

We are involved with teaching beginner wakeboarder and wakesurfers as part of a Christian camp each year as well as taking youth out from our church. As such, we are not interested in pro-level performance, but rather ability to get good quality water and lower speeds.

Having said all that, I am looking at new boat options and wondered if anyone here could speak to either the RZ2 or Z3 performance in these areas.

Also: does anyone have any information on how this new convex Vx system works when wakeboarding: ie. does it mess up wakeboarding wake?

I really like tige boats by reading about them, but the other issue we have is NO dealers for a LONG way (we are in Ohio) whereas we have Mastercraft about 1.5 hours away. So Mastercraft is the main other option to consider.

    thank you.

I love our RZ2. Really, really love it. But it will not put out a smooth wake at 18 mph.

This issue has been hashed out numerous times here on TO, and every time, things get contentious. Most of us do not deny the 18 mph wake is mushy but many (not me) say either it does not matter or you ought to be going faster. Whatever. There are definitely other boats that put out a smooth 18 mph wave but the ones I know of do not surf nearly as well as a Tige.

Caveat: I have no idea what the Z3 puts out at 18 mph.

I can tell you when we demo'd our RZR I had my 10 yr old daughter ride also. She rides at 17 mph. No matter what we did the wake would not clean up at 17 or even when bumped up the speed. It was a demo so we didn't get to play with it that much. But it wasn't pretty at 17. All wash and mush. Kids don't really care though. She was still able to get as much air as behind our other boat.

I was told the same thing as Duncan said....go faster. I just don't really want to pull my kids at 21.

It is all in the individual. I do not even pull beginners at 18, we start them at 19.5-20. I have an older boat, but still puts out a great wake at that speed. No mushyness there, most people that board behind our boat say the wake scares them at first because it is so much more than they are used to. Surfing, Tige will be hard to beat!!

I am not looking for contention and didn't realize this was any kind of common criticism of the tige. I just have found that beginning riders (kids up through early teens) do better at probably 14-16 mph. Heck I'd much rather fall at 16 when working on surface tricks than catch a front side edge and faceplant at 20+

Maybe we're all just too wimpy or maybe my boat's speedo is off!

I really (really!) love the tige look and many of it's features. The Z3 is probably the boat I want right now but unfortunately there is not a dealer for at least 4-5 hours away so I'm struggling to decide.

also looking at mastercraft, I think the x30 is probably comparable. I think it's ugly compared with tige, but local dealer an hour away means a lot.

Appreciate all input and again I'm not an agitator!

I can clean up at 18.5 or so but forget it below that, I'm not sure how the 23 footers will go

x30 will have a better low speed wake for sure though. or axis/malibu.

The 2012 Malibu diamond hull I saw was not clean at low speeds but another wake hull was.

I can get a clean wake all the way down to 15. Surf wake is KILLER.. Not a boat Id trade into at this point in time... Love my RZ2

I can usually clean up my RZ2 wake on at least one side at around 17. That's one side though, and I'll have someone in the back shift from side to side to clean up whatever side the rider is about to go over. I find some weight in the front helps too (but not as much as it did on my 24V).

I usually can't get both sides clean until around 18.5 to 19.

Malibu Ride would make a great affordable camp boat, plus the clean wake you are looking for.

EDIT - I don't think you will find any v-drive under 16 with a clean wakeboard wake. The Ride series has very minimal electronics and you can get it in a 21 or 23 foot.

Jreis, whats your set up on the RZR to get a clean wake at 18.5? Would love to be able to have a clean wake that slow for the kids.

A couple of faceplants with 14 year old girls at that speed and you are sure to not have them taking up any more time behind your boat. One of the first things newbies need to learn is how not to fall over forward.

Is that with your super-secret mod? If not, I would be interested in the setup, Taps, and rope length for a "clean" wake across the speed range of 15-18 mph.

I must be doing something really, really wrong because I cannot get a froth-free wake at any TAPS or combination of factory ballast tanks (yes, tried no weight, all bow, all rear, and mix bow/rear, with port/sb balance). Shortening the rope helps some but does not eliminate problem.

It goes without saying I remain ultra-interested in your super-secret mod no matter its effect on a wakeboard wake
