I know this is a Tige forum but was contacted by and friend and asked what I knew about Nautiques and the new "surf gate" style system they are offering on the 2013 boats.

Does anyone have any input on the G23 and or the new surf option?

The G23 is one of the best boats on the market IMO, if you have an unlimited budget. I love Tige, but if money wasn't an object I'd own a G23. That being said I live in the real world so I own a 2013 Tige RZR. Tige's are the best boat for the money IMO. Problem with the G23 is its huge and they list for 130K+. Discounted selling price on the one at the boat show was 125K!! Just not realistic for the average person.

boardman that is true. The price is up there. But so is the price on the top of the line of all the manufactures.

As I understand it, the surfgate is pretty well identical to the hydrogate that they already use for wakeboarding, just mounted differently to try to breed a better surf wake. It seems that the effect is pretty minimal on the wakeboard wake, and the discussions I have seen say that the effect on the surf wake is minimal as well.

Where do you derive on the best, Quality is no better , materials is no better, function ( steering left or right, very bad)( going on to plane and visability, very bad) ( power and response same engine to engine, very bad)( wakeboard wake in stock form is exelent , surf wake only average, but they do excell in fuel consumption, they like lots of gas.
Please state what is better?

I agree completely, for my money I got the Z3...If I had the budget I would also be in a G23 or a G25. They are definitively the best boat money can buy.

i do heavily disagree with these statements. Its all marketing. First it comes down to preference of wake shape. As far as size goes, they all make a big wake. We have gone toe to toe with xstars, nautiques and malibus with our 24v. The Tige can make just as big of a wake and in a lot of cases it was meatier at 80' back. Tige just does not have the big name pros to back it up or the marketing budgets it appears.

Granted the G23 is a nice boat, but as far as quality and useability it is not better. Plus the g23 will not plane very well. I find it funny how tige invented the antiplaning hull and now the others are doing the same. However the g23 takes forever to get out of its own way. Kinda like an axis.

I got to climb around a g23 firsthand this weekend at our boatshow. I will say it's an impressive boat with all the storage and is downright enormous in size.

that being said, if money was no object, I'd park a z3 in the garage every day. our crew only surfs and the z3 has been the best surfwake I've been on. I like the styling better than the enzo's. now if the market(not nautiques pr department or sponsored riders) show me that the g23 has a better surfwake than the z3, I'd change my mind but initial responses seem to indicate it'll excell at boarding and be good at surfing. I want it the other way around..

I was a long time Tige' fan. I still think that Tige' is a good boat for the money. They make a nice wave for surfing and a good wakeboard wake. I never had a complaint about my 2005 20'. I was lined up to get a 2013 RZR but decided that the interior space was like a sardine can. Nice boat, nice wave but very cramped. I run wakesurfing schools and I needed the space. Thought about a new Z1 but couldn't get any help from Tige' with information about the surf wake. In the meantime we started pursuing other opportunities. Malibu, Supreme, Centurion etc. all great wave makers.

Well, we went and rode the new Nautiques with the NSS a few weeks ago. NSS not only allows you to switch sides within a few seconds but unlike the "surfgate" it is adjustable (not just out or in) and you really can change the shape of the wake.

I have to say that the interior quality of the Nautiques, IMO is by far the best. A factory tour proved that.

now you just have to pony up the $$$$. Where i live and the length of the boating season, just not an option. If I lived in a climate the let me crawl in my boat all year. then I would find a way for that ride but probably a G25. the nautique is one sweet ride.. that is for sure.

The G23 and G25 are awesome boats but way out of our price range. We are working our way up. The 230 has one of the best waves I've ever ridden.

Out of curiosity, what other surf wakes have you ridden, that you are comparing the 230 to? The 236/230 hull has been CC's best surf wake, and thats mainly due to the the others being so lack-luster. The pics and vids ive seen of the G23's surf wake are ok, but do not lift my skirt. Maybe a ride would change that as pics can be deceiving.

Have you toured the Tige factory? To my knowledge they use the same quality vinyl and Gortex stitching in their interior.Have you surfed behind a Z1,RZ2 or Z3?
