I haven't been to Clear Lake, but I have heard it wasn't as "Clear" as the name implies. A good friend competes in bass tournaments up there every so often, but doesn't comment on the water conditions much. When we lived in Davis, we would regularly ski at Lake Berryessa which is just south of clear lake. We thought of it as a mini Lake Shasta.
Sorry not much help, but I would say Berryessa might be worth stopping at. We always put in a Markley Cove and skied in the narrows.
