Advice for Water Test in DFW Area?

    Hey guys,

Looking for some advice on a good lake / river to complete a water test in the Dallas/Ft Worth area this coming weekend. Seller is agreeable to meet me there - but neither of us are familiar with the waterways there. Looking for a good place to launch and safe water depths to operate.

    Appreciate your input.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks Nobody. I'll suggest Lake Lewisville at a meeting place.

Where is the seller coming from? If its Oklahoma, then Lewisville would be good.
If its not fun, Why do it?

Eagle Mountain lake is another option and it's close to the Tige dealer if there are questions. Both are on the West side of DFW

Where are you both coming from? That would help a lot in order to make suggestions. The two named might be your best bet as one is east and one west. Be careful on Eagle Mtn and stay away from the north end. Gets pretty shallow.

Thanks for the input on Eagle Lake - I'll suggest it. What's a good marina there?

I'm coming from Houston and the seller is coming from a small town 2 hours West of FW. Last night he suggested meeting at Lake Granbury basis input from his FW friend that is also a
boater. What are your thoughts on Lake Granbury?

Granbury is not an option due to water levels. All ramps have been closed since Sept. My suggestion is Lake Worth. Easy in and out of of loop 820.

Thanks Jack. Before I read your post - I called the Brazos River Authority - and they confirmed that "they are 5ft low; but had 2 ramps open...but it's best if you stay in the channel markers."

Yeah - I really want to test there!

Think I'm going to push for Lake Worth or Eagle Mountain.

                    Chris,

Here is a pic taken recently Granbury's best ramp. The Brazos River Authority is killing this lake.

All of the lakes here in N.Texas are low due to the drought. We have a place on Bridgeport and our dock is about 100 or more yards from the water. Bridgeport is another good one. Just look at the maps and stay on the N side of the causeway and you should be able to get a good feel for the boat. You can still put in at the Runaway Bay ramp.

Jack - that picture is worth 1000 words! Thanks for sharing.

We decided to postpone the water test until March for several reasons. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Would you care to explain how the BRA is killing lake Granbury ? I own a place at PK, and although I'm not a big fan of the BRA, they don't/can't control the weather. The worst drought since the 50's is to blame. Residents and Realtors have for years been calling Granbury a constant level lake. There is no such thing.

The BRA sells more water out of Granbury than either PK or Whitney. In addition it is the smallest of the three on the Brazos. Checkout savelakegranbury.org. Good news is that due to the lack of water in Granbury the Mrs. has agreed we need to buy a place at PK

Come on up ! PK is ten foot low now, but our dock is still floating and our personal ramp is usable, but it won't be for much longer if we don't get substantial rainfall in the water shed ( Lubbock area ). We can always trailer the boat down to the lower part of the lake where it's 100ft deep.
