I have and OLD PP 3 Event, all we do is ski (I did not even install a paddle wheel). In the ski mode my PP works off of RPM and the timing with the magnets on the course. Once you calibrate your boat in the course the RPMs needed for each speed (time through the course) they are remembered. They say the paddle wheel is not as accurate at higher speeds for skiing a course this is why they use timing thru the course.
The Wakeboarding uses the paddle wheel and goes off speed. If you are skiing open water and just want a steady pull the wakeboard stargazer should be fine. If you jump on the course I'd recommend going for the 3 Event.Last edited by wired1236; 01-24-2013, 10:47 PM.

I am leaning toward the Stargazer system but have a question that I am sure someone on here can answer. I understand if you are on a river with a current that the error the stargazer gives you is it does not calculate in the current but it looks like to me you should be able to figure out what your speed should be upstream and down stream then adjust. I do most of my boating on the Ohio river which in the summer is not too fast of a current. From what my simple mind can make out it is not so much the MPH you are going on a river with a current as it is the speed at which the water is passing under the boat because the Stargazer is going to be right on MPH. Any thoughts?

GPS is measuring your speed across the surface of the earth. When you are on a body of water with a current, that body of water is moving across the surface of the earth also. So the indicated speed on a GPS unit will be either faster or slower than your actual speed across the water. That speed difference is the speed of the current (assuming that you are traveling either directly with or directly against the current).
