Definately one of the best additions ever to our boat and this drivers sanity.

I have and OLD PP 3 Event, all we do is ski (I did not even install a paddle wheel). In the ski mode my PP works off of RPM and the timing with the magnets on the course. Once you calibrate your boat in the course the RPMs needed for each speed (time through the course) they are remembered. They say the paddle wheel is not as accurate at higher speeds for skiing a course this is why they use timing thru the course.

The Wakeboarding uses the paddle wheel and goes off speed. If you are skiing open water and just want a steady pull the wakeboard stargazer should be fine. If you jump on the course I'd recommend going for the 3 Event.
just FYI - I'm sure that's how the older PP 3E works but, this is not how the Stargazer works. It uses the GPS for lower speeds in WB mode and the RPM for skiing. It also can be shipped with a paddle wheel interface for those of us on rivers. I installed the paddle wheel option and just plug it in when on the faster moving rivers. When on a lake or slow river, I just unplug it and plug the GPS back in. For us, it's not that big of deal to use the GPS when wakeboarding (not that picky) but surfing it makes a big difference as just a 1mph can throw your wake off. Works great.

Where are you getting the PP from? How much? Group buy possibilities?

I called Perfect Pass directly and I think it was like 1050 bucks but it may have been closer to 1200. A group buy would be awesome tho

I found a guy that will discount it down to $995 + shipping. We can reduce it another $35-40 if we get from 6-10 total group buyers. With the two of us we would only need 4 others?
ANyone else looking to add PP?

Is that for Stargazer wake edition? Wow, I just bought mine a few months ago directly from perfectpass for $1200. I guess I should have shopped around a little.

Yes, Stargazer Wake Edition $995 + shipping. I found a line on a used one for $700 out a Ski Nautique. The guy is replacing it with a zero off. I should know for sure by the end of the weekend? You're right it seems like a great deal.

Sounds good. It looks like i am still in too the guy with the used one wants $750 and it has a Nautique logo on the faceplate. For a few hundred $ more you get a new warranty and stuff. Maybe I'll start a new thread and see if we get some more interest?

I am leaning toward the Stargazer system but have a question that I am sure someone on here can answer. I understand if you are on a river with a current that the error the stargazer gives you is it does not calculate in the current but it looks like to me you should be able to figure out what your speed should be upstream and down stream then adjust. I do most of my boating on the Ohio river which in the summer is not too fast of a current. From what my simple mind can make out it is not so much the MPH you are going on a river with a current as it is the speed at which the water is passing under the boat because the Stargazer is going to be right on MPH. Any thoughts?

Stargazer should have the GPS option so the current wont matter, because it wont be using a paddlewheel. I could be wrong so someone correct me if that isnt the case

                            yes, you are wrong

GPS is measuring your speed across the surface of the earth. When you are on a body of water with a current, that body of water is moving across the surface of the earth also. So the indicated speed on a GPS unit will be either faster or slower than your actual speed across the water. That speed difference is the speed of the current (assuming that you are traveling either directly with or directly against the current).

The good news from what i understand if the GPS gives u issues a paddle wheel can be added to the Stargazer unit later, is that correct?
