Politicians, hungry for votes, are able to read their demographic more easily and more in real-time than ever. Thus, moving to act on the latest shiny object is more about lining up support than intent on "solving" a problem.

Who does, really?
Where are your numbers on the MAJORITY of america? It may be true that the majority of americans want universal background checks, however I dont believe it is true that the majority of america wants an assault weapons ban. The fact is that a lot of people are uneducated when it come to guns.

Look up the Chicago Tribune picture for an example. The uneducated person that made the picture said that where the sling mounts on an ar-15 was the bayonet lug!

This is for gun control/bans/etc but that's not what I was referring to when I said majority.
          http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-34222_16...ws-polls-show/
Though some Republicans, including Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., have said reinstating a nationwide ban on assault weapons would not pass muster in Congress, 58 percent of respondents said they would support doing so, and 65 percent said they would back a law banning high-capacity ammunition clips containing more than 10 bullets.
Majority as in, people who voted Democrat and re-elected the President. The majority in this thread did not vote Dem but the majority of the country did.

I have no idea why you quoted me. Are you expressing disagreement with my opinion that chasing shiny objects ie. gun control in the wake of massive public sentiment, is the reason Banana is all over creating policy? If that is the case, I guess we net to different opinions. I see him as a perpetual campaigner and wish he would instead focus on getting our financial house in order and dealing proactively and to appropriate outcomes with the Middle East.....

I also think you meant, "precious rights."

I believe MasterCrafter was sharing that 91Terminator was a JackA$$ for his "less than appealing" contributions base on a difference of personal political opinion and that that posters like Wickedcummins can do little more than spray others with spit trying to express their baseless need to keep assault weapons in our society.

Precarious (adjective) would be correct as would precious, but precious doesn't seem fitting when it comes to worthless, meaningless, useless assault weapons in a civil society that has the most violence other than rogue nations.

I believe you were quote simple based on convenience since you were the last message in the thread at that time.

If we are going to go on stats, we will need to eliminate baseball, according to the FBI latest data baseball bats is the number one weapon of choice by murderers.
My only point is instead of spending the ammount money and time that is going to be wasted on gun control, we should take that ammount and spend it towards getting help for those mentally disturbed people who do the killings, and catch them with profiling or what ever means to fix the root cause , we cant possibly eliminate every means of weapon.
I can keep putting spark plugs in an engine thats running to rich a fuel mixture, but that wont stop the problem, it will keep fowling the plugs.
WE HAVE TO GET TO THE ROOT CAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The root cause of the problem is lack of jobs in this country. If everyone had a job and responsibility they wouldn't have time to be criminals. They would be out buying the things they wanted instead of stealing them.A college education has never helped anyone do manual labor, but it has helped many get a cushy job sitting on their fat lazy butt and spitting out all their self proclaimed greatness.Put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!

Mentally disturbed people will never overthrow the Gov, nor will people with only baseball bats. Read between the lines and you will see the fed's need to ban guns.

If this latest campaign by Obama was truly about saving the lives of children, which was both his visual and audible message the other day when he signed a bill surrounded by elementary school aged kids, then it would only make sense that the fed's would outlaw abortion. More children are murdered every year by abortion, then all forms of weapons.

I'd be willing to bet that more teens are killed or injured by motor vehicle accidents a year them are killed or injured by someone using a weapon. Yet we are not looking to raise the driving age to 21 or ban kids from cars until they are 21.

Bottom line, you have to actually watch the actions of the administration, not just listen to the words they speak.

We got to the ROOT CAUSE with medical insurance but nobody wanted around here wanted to anti up. Getting to the ROOT CAUSE requires everyone to make a sacrifice. That's not going to happen, especially in this "Tige owner" community where Me Myself and I trump.

IMO the root cause stems from violence we learn from movies and video games.

The second root cause is Republicans.

The third root cause is guys like Nickypoo who have boat loads of anger and no place to vent.

We need to get rid off all three, or at least find a way to deal with them.

                          Any suggestions?

Its nice to see you post something with some logic behind it. Although I do not believe that violent movies or games cause mentally stable people to flip their lids and go commit a violent crime, I do believe these movies and games do desensitize society to violence and in may cases, glorify the violent behavior. Now, the average person who is sound in mind, will not easily be influence by this, as they can keep fiction separate from reality.

For those with mental issues, these movies and games are not the cause, but simply a trigger in some cases, to a violent act.

The problem is, is that our current administration has no desire to actually go after the movie and gaming industry. Reason being is that they are major $$$ contributors to the liberal agenda:
Social programs - as long as its not their money paying for it.
Freedom of speech - as its in their favor
No guns - except the ones they use in violent movies and games
electric cars - for the rest of us, so they cans still fly around in their private jets and drive their gas-guzzling SUVs
Abortion - so easy to not be responsible for your actions
gay marriage - to hell with god and the bible

The movie and game industry was invited to be part or Biteme's gun control panel, but gun rights groups where only allowed to appear in front of the panel and plead their position. This clearly shows the agenda of the group.

The second root cause is Republicans.
                              Can you elaborate?

                                Can you elaborate?
Just yanking your chain on the Republican and Nickypoo thing.

In all sincerity one of the main "root cause" is based on the deterioration of the family. The social institution of the family is extremely crucial to a healthy society. I have invested a very large sum in the past 2 years to help fund a new 501C4 social welfare corporation (Social / Political Movement in short) that spearheads family court policy in the 6th circuit. As I may seem contentious to many, to your surprise I am deeply involved in the "social cure".

For those that might have questions, our family court system is based on policy, not law, of which is adversarial based. A system designed to keep divorced parents in a endless state of conflict. The antidote is collaborative policy that seeks to find amicable resolve versus endless nothingness that gets resolved when both parties are bankrupt. This is not another "angry dad" movement, it core supporters is the BAR and the mental health community. Secondary supporters are the public educators, social welfare community, and lastly the religious community. In short, we want policy that open and serves the communities best interest and policy that seeks the best interest of the families and their children. We actually have it, but our chief judge and family court executive put their middle finger up to the supreme court and the family and children steering committee's rulings.

We will be the 2nd PAC (political action committee) in the US that's geared towards the judicial community.

Politics is fun if (and only if) you can remain objective, rational and seek compromise. Thus, board members cannot currently be involved in litigation.

The answers require us to put down our partisanship.
