    Boat insurance time

Hey all - about time to renew the boat insurance - thought I'd shop around - any suggestions based on experience/rates? Appreciate the opinions!

I have had Westmar since the beginning. They recently merged with someone else. Worth a quote.

I love my Progressive policy. Rates will vary depending on the level of liability coverage you choose, and the level of deductible you want, so me stating that my policy cost was $380 at this last renewal prob won't help you much. I know my deductible is $250 - I learned the hard way to have a 250 ded vs a 1000 ded. I hit something two summers ago - Progressive was incredible to deal with. I dropped it off at my dealership, they went there to view it and cut a check two days later. Dealer had to call Progressive twice together additional funds, and they cut a check immediately, and would even call me to give an update. I had to pay the 1000 deductible, and the total repair was over 6000. So now my deductible is only 250!!

Boat U.S insurance. Progressive will not pay for engine replacement. Most other marine/boat insurance agencies who deal with boats will have a mechanical provision, Progressive does not. As we do a lot of engine replacements, Boat U.S has been the most economical (my Tige is with them, full coverage even up to $1million environmental pollution, $389/yr) and they have been the easiest to deal with when collecting funds.

like kimber said, it's tough to compare apples on this subject. I'm with progressive and have been since 2006. never had a claim so can't speak to the service, but price is good.

Be very careful. Boat insurance coverage varies greatly company to company. Understand that boat US is the Walmart of insurance and has the worst/most minimal coverage legal. Its like anything else, you get what you pay for. I can tell you boat insurance has went up a lot in the last 5 years. I'm at about $625 for a 2013 RZR guaranteed value with real full coverage, not Boat US full coverage.

You can purchase whatever level coverage you want. I hold their yacht policy, with a defined dollar value of the boat (in my case, it is the full purchase price I had paid).

I will admit that I have never had to make a claim, but one reason I chose Boat US was my dealer's experiences with numerous insurance companies, he had found them to be the easiest for the customer to deal with and the most complete in covering ALL costs (such as engine replacement noted above).

Others may have different experience with them, though.

X2 on this... check your coverage and limits... you can get a hold of each company and have them quote it and you can get a copy of the quote then sit down and actually compare the two or three policy quotes side by side. Important to look at liability and all the limits... a $1million Liability is never too much.

I personally am a Farmers Insurance agent and have my boat and my fathers boat through Progressive.

I have my Boat insurance through Aviva. I have never made a claim I just pay the bill. Agent told me it is typical to pay $100 per $10,000 value of the boat per year.

Had allstate on previous boat. Way overpriced even with multipolicy discounts. Boat US is easiest and freindliest to work with. You get what you pay for is true but make sure pay for what you want. Compare quotes for same coverage and you will happy with Boat US.
