do I need to replace the starter?

Take a look at the attached pics. Boat would turn over then start clicking. I noticed the starter cable was loose. I stated to tighten it, then the worst thing happened. It broke. Ugh....help

Unless you can replace the solenoid, the starter is toast!

You may also be able to get the solenoid rebuilt.See if there is a starter and alternator rebuilder in your area.Depending on how old the starter is,you may want to get it rebuilt also.

Thats just the starter solenoid. I think swapping it will be easier than finding one

With as much rust as you can see in the pic, the starter gear and shaft is most likely equally as rusted so I would change the starter.

Yup, replace the starter with either oem mercruiser number #50-863007A1 ($175 perfprotech.com) or sierra 18-5913 $140 go2marine.com. The little white square on top is a 90amp fuse, replace if you want but I would recommend removing it.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...
