Water getting into my 2010 RZ2

    Hi All,
I recently imported a 2010 RZ2 down-under and it seems to be taking in more water that I would have expected and needs to be constantly bilged out. In fact overnight the level of water in the engine bay is up to lower pulleys on the motor. Can anyone provide some guidance on where I should start looking for the leak that it letting this water in.

    Thanks,

    From the Shacky.

Odds are that the running gear was removed in order to pack up and transport. I would start by getting the boat out of the water. Once out of the water, look to see if the unwanted water in the bilge is leaking back out from somewhere.

Places to look at: rudder, tracking fins, strut and prop shaft seal, loose raw water hose or a damaged hull.

With the bilge drained and dry, boat back in the water, run the engine to see if its a cooling water leak.

I would check the shaft seal. I am guessing the drain is in good? If it is that much you should be able to bilge it out then see if you can see where it is coming in.

It could even be a line connection or one of the plugs that are taken off to winterize are not in well or properly, cross threaded.

Also look and see if you have a ballast pump that has come off of the intake or something. Hope you get it figured out quickly

BTW - welcome to the forum! Post some pics of your boat!

#1 source of a big leak in a boat that new.

Water coming in at rest is very worrisome. If you come back after leaving her in the water overnight, you might find her on the bottom of the lake.
          Be excellent to one another.

Shaft seal is my bet, just about to change mine, I am told the dripless seal will often let in more water at rest, also check the swim platform brackets, I had one loose and letting in water, you should have an auto bilge pump, so the water level shouldnt get that high

Thanks all for the suggestions. I will be putting the boat in the water this weekend so I'll try out your suggestions to see if I can track down the issue.

Just to let those know that may be interested. I found what was the cause of the water coming into my boat.
It turns out that it had two issues. First was as suggested by Timmy and Talltigeguy, one of the ballast pumps had a crack in it and was leaking water; the second was the rear starboard tie-down point was loose and letting water into the hull. Once we turned off the tap under the ballast pump and tightened tie down nuts inside the hull – no more leaks.

Thanks to all those that made suggestions.
