Finishing off rear platform on bottom side

Has anyone tried finishing off the rear platform on the underside as a winter project? My rear platform does not drag too much when surfing, I was just currious if anyone tackled the project.

Would you just fill in with self leveling resin? I can only imagine how much it would take....would you even care about the additional weight?

Nick, if you are going to do it, I would fill it with expanding foam first, sand it down to where it is level and then lay down fiberglass mat and resin. That method should not add much weight at all.

My only concern would be making sure you can secure the fiberglass mat well to the platform. To do that you will likely have to sand down the edge of the platform so that you can lay the mat (or grill cloth material) down and staple it all the way around before applying the resin. That would mean you would have to refinish the platform.

Maybe there is an expanding foam that has an adhesive in it so that you don't have to glass over the edges. IDK for sure but regular expanding foam may stick well enough to the underside of the platform where you won't have a problem.

After thinking about it, I think I may only need to fill in about a 6 inch bevel the whole leading edge to take away the "lip" of the platform. It would end up being a nice tapered angle eliminating the lip under the swim platform rather than finishing the whole underside.

Maybe I am bored and need to find a better project! Are New Tige boat swim platforms finished on the underside?

I have considered just removing the lip off of my platform. You can look up wickeds thread for some advice.

The downside to removing the lip is that the lip is there for structural support for the platform so you can fill it in but I wouldn't cut it away.

I cut it away and have had no issues with this.. No need to fill it in.. =)
