Potential Banning on Lake Austin

Update!!
The meeting went great actually!! It was obvious everyone agreed that the hydrilla was out of control and remained to be the biggest problem of all. The hydrilla is so bad in areas it only allows us to use half of Lake Austin. In turn, this causes the lake to be even more congested in the areas that aren't so bad. In addition, Lake Travis is lower than average and people are finding it easier to launch on Lake Austin. This has obviously lead to more traffic, larger speed boats on a smaller lake, and a demand for much more parking at Lake Austin access points. These were other issues discussed.
As for the ban on hand..... I must say that it felt great to see so many water sports enthusiast speaking up for the cause. They proved some great points regarding the lack of effects to the shoreline due to the boat wakes and offered up ideas on how to address homeowner's issues. Fortunately there wasn't as much bickering about the "wake boats" as we expected. I believe they were very surprised to see the amount of people that showed on our behalf. It was also great to see some respectable faces in attendance such as Tige founder Charlie Pigeon himself, Larry from Fresh Air Exhaust, Shredd Stixx crew, and local female pro wake surfer Raleigh Hager.
The council mentioned that they have a great deal of work to do and it will be at least a year before they decide to implement anything. I am certain that the many request for no additional regulations/minimal regulations made a huge impression and will be the end result. I will be sure to post a link to the video of the meeting as soon as it is posted.Last edited by SKYHI; 10-23-2012, 06:08 AM.

I couldn't agree more and believe that this was their attempt to do just that. Keep in mind that they tried enforcing this ban in 2010 as well. It's very likely they assumed we forgot about it and thought they could slip in another council meeting a couple years later to win them over. To their surprise they were outnumbered 10-1 at the least. This is something that will only get stronger on our end so I hope they are readily prepared next time or just realize they are being irrational. There isn't enough evidence to prove that we are responsible for eroding the lakefront properties, nor do I think there ever will be. As for the increase in traffic the last couple of years, they can fix that by simply getting rid of the hydrilla which will open up other areas of the lake. I will definitely keep you all posted.
