When we were at Powell last month we stopped at Dangling rope. They had some pictures of a cliff diver that died. They had captured the whole thing on film. He jumped from 70ft. The diagram said you hit the water doing 43mph from that height. He went in crooked and they found the body in about 250ft of water.

When I was in college we were cliff jumping and this guy jumped from a cliff we thought was 60ft. He broke his back. They ended up measuring the cliff and it was 82ft high. That guy was so luck to be alive. Ever since then I don't jump off anything over about 15ft.

This is a tragedy and unfortunately it does happen often. If you do jump or dive off cliffs or let your kids do it. I don't think it would be a wise to jump of bigger cliffs with a vest on, unless you want it ripped off of you potentially causing more harm. The bigger the jump the bigger the consequences. I grew up diving and still do big jumps and dives. Know your spot, be sober, have friends nearby at the landing and work your way up to bigger jumps in small increments. If you are not confident don't do it.
